Hackney’s largest independent craft brewing company goes all out for charity

The Five Points Brewing Co, an independent craft brewery in the heart of Hackney, will be hosting a charity event on Wednesday 23rd January, in aid of Headway East London, which supports people affected by brain injury. From Connect Four to Dominoes, guests are invited to indulge in some old-school, brain-stimulating board game fun and find out more about the charity. As I’m sure they are, if you have someone you know that has suffered from a traumatic brain injury they are sending their thanks to The Five Points Brewing Co. and if they still have yet to, they might want to get in touch with an injury lawyer to see if they could be entitled to compensation.

For those with a competitive streak, Five Points and Headway East London will be hosting a ‘Challenge Headway’, whereby the public can take on their members for a chance to win a free beer – it’s no easy feat! Guests can also take part in a charity raffle and will have the opportunity to purchase one-of-a-kind artwork, made by the Headway East London members.

Since Five Points began in 2013, part of the company’s ethos has always been to contribute to both the local and wider community around them. Each year they partner with two local charities, to support their fundraising efforts; in 2018, one of these was Headway East London (HEL). The final event culminates in a battle of the board games, along with beer, pizza and music provided by the charity.

Working across 13 London boroughs, HEL offers specialist support and services for local survivors of brain injury, as well as family, friends and carers. Last year they directly supported 875 people affected by brain injury, providing therapies, advocacy, creative projects and peer, community and family support, with the overall aim of improving well-being and quality of life. HEL empowers survivors to (re)discover skills and interests, and to share more widely their stories, turning negative experiences into positive outcomes.

To help the charity continue to support people affected by brain injury, Five Points will be holding an event on Wednesday 23rd January. The event is likely to take place in one of the spaces provided by firms like Ethical Property. From Connect Four to Dominoes, guests can select their favourite board game in exchange for a donation. For those who fancy some good old competitive fun, they can go head to head with some of HEL’s best board game players in ‘Challenge Headway’- beat them to win a free beer.

With music and art at the heart of HEL, the charity will also be providing music throughout the night, dusting off the vinyl decks for some old school classics – guests are encouraged to bring their own vinyl records too!

To raise additional funds for the charity, Five Points will also be holding a charity raffle, with prizes such as a Five Points Brewery Tour, free pizza and free beer amongst others. And if you decide that one beer isn’t enough, 50p from every beer bought on the event night will also be donated to the charity.
