STAND UP FOR MENTAL HEALTH WITH THE FIVE POINTS BREWING COMPANY

Following the sell-out success of their first ever charity comedy night last year in honour of mental health awareness week, Five Points is once again hosting four critically acclaimed comedians to support their charity partner, Mind in the City, Hackney and Waltham Forest.

In a traditionally ‘blue’ month, this January Five Points is inviting guests to ‘stand up’ for mental health at The Pembury Tavern, the brewery’s pub and taproom in Hackney. A universal language for all, laughter and goodwill will be at the core of the evening, with all proceeds donated to Mind in the City, Hackney and Waltham Forest.

The evening will host an acclaimed line-up of comedians: Sean McLoughlin (Stand-Up Central, After Life), Adam Hess (Live At The Palladium), Heidi Reagan (The Now Show) and Sunil Patel (Borderline), and all profits from the evening will be donated to the charity.

Mental health awareness is more important than ever, with one in four people experiencing mental health problems each year, according to charity event partner, Mind. The Five Points and their local branch, Mind in the City, Hackney and Waltham Forest, are partnering for the second year running to fundraise services run by the charity for people living in these boroughs.

In 2019, The Five Points and The Pembury Tavern raised over £4,500 for Mind in the City, Hackney and Waltham Forest, and are kicking off their renewed partnership in 2020 with Stand Up For Mental Health on Wednesday 15th January. Bringing together 4 top UK comedians, the evening is set to be a barrel of laughs with charity and goodwill at the very centre.

Heading up the line-up is Sean McLoughlin, “The best comedian you haven’t heard of” according to Time Out and “an impassioned and uniquely brilliant talent” by The List. He has performed on several U.K. tours and provided tour support for Ricky Gervais on his international ‘Humanity’ tour and for Bill Burr at the Royal Albert Hall, as well as for the likes of Doug Stanhope and Katherine Ryan.

Adam Hess is a stand-up comedian, actor, TV writer and “general cheeky-guy from London”. His performances have been described by Time Out as “relentlessly entertaining, full of beautiful imagery,” Hess has performed on the BBC, ITV, alongside writing for Russell Howard’s Good News, and hosting countless live performances that have his audiences in stitches.

Originally hailing from Australia, Heidi Reagan has been writing comedy for over ten years. Since throwing herself into stand-up after quashing a lifelong fear of public speaking, Regan has gone onto win the 2017 BBC New Comedy Award, write and perform on The Now Show and BBC Quickies, and provide tour support for the likes of Joe Lycett and The Guilty Feminist.

According to Broadway Baby, the talented Sunil Patel “oozes funny like a jammy doughnut running down a diner’s chin.” Patil has performed stand-up across the UK and Europe, including on the BBC2’s hilarious Big Asian Stand-Up, acted and performed on shows for Channel 5, Netflix and Viceland, alongside hosting and appearing on podcasts.

Tickets for the event can be bought from Eventbrite for £12 which includes a pint of Five Points beer, wine or soft drink alternative on the bar. A raffle will also be taking place on the night, with all proceeds going to mental health charity, Mind in the City, Hackney and Waltham Forest.

The comedy night will be taking place in a separate wing of the Pembury Tavern, so the pub will be open as usual.
