Last week, the blockbuster exhibition ‘TUTANKHAMUN: Treasures of the Golden Pharaoh’, produced by the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities and IMG, opened its doors to a host of celebrities and dignitaries at the Saatchi Gallery in London.

VIPs, including Francis Boulle, Lady Fiona Carnarvon, Huw Edwards, Amir El Masr, Sally Woodward Gentle, Louise Pentland, Heather Watson, Penelope Wilton and Andrew Cooper were given an exclusive look at the exhibition ahead of the public opening on Saturday 2nd November 2019.

Arrivals on the ‘gold’ carpet took place from 6.30pm. Upon entry, guests were given the opportunity to explore the 150 glittering, world-heritage artefacts on display from King’s Tutankhamun’s tomb. Howard Carter and the 5th Earl of Carnarvon’s storied discovery captivated the world back in November 1922 and has continued to do so for almost 100 years.

A drinks reception took place on the top floor of the Saatchi Gallery, where guests were treated to Taittinger champagne and a selection of canapés and bowl food.

At 8pm, speeches were addressed to the room by John Norman, Managing Director of Exhibitions at IMG; Neil Barclay, Head of Sales at Viking; Tarek Adel, the Egyptian Ambassador to the UK and Dr. Khaled El-Enany, the Egyptian Minister of Antiquities.

London is the third stop in a ten-city world tour of the exhibition commemorating the centenary of the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb. After breaking records in Los Angeles and becoming France’s most attended exhibition of all time, ‘TUTANKHAMUN: Treasures of the Golden Pharaoh’ has now taken up residence at the Saatchi Gallery London and will be open to the public from 2 November 2019 to 3 May 2020.

This is the final chance for the public to see over 150 artefacts – more than 60 of which are travelling outside of Egypt for the first time – before they return to Egypt forever. At the conclusion of the world tour, the artefacts will go on permanent display at the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo, which is supported by exhibition proceeds.
