Two jailed for Haringey knife point robbery and car jacking

Two men were jailed for more than eight years at Wood Green Crown Court for a knifepoint robbery after attacking a man in Haringey and stealing his car.

The pair were tracked down with the assistance of the National Police Air Support Unit [NPAS].

Joseph Hadji, 36 (30.01.82) of Parkhurst Road, N22 and Yassin Bentiss, 28 (28.10.89) of no fixed abode were sentenced on Friday, 29 June.

Hadji pleaded guilty to robbery receiving three years and six months imprisonment and Bentiss was found guilty receiving five years imprisonment.

The court heard that on Friday, 12 January at around 23:45 hours, the victim, a 27 year-old man, had parked his vehicle a black Volkswagen on at the junction of Marquis Road and Green Lanes N22.

He was approached by Bentiss and Hadji as he got out of his car on route to High Road N22. They approached him from behind, blocking his path. The victim was forced to hand over his phone, cash and his car key after Bentiss lifted up his jacket revealing a knife in his waistband.

Hadji and Bentiss then got into the victim’s car and drove off.

Police were called and the victim traced the stolen phone using the ‘Find my Iphone’ app. Officers followed the movements of the phone with the assistance of the NPAS.

They tracked Hadji and Bentiss’s movements in the car from Arcadian Gardens N22 to Woodside Road N22 until it eventually stopped at Crofts Road N22.
