1 In 3 Londoners Are Yet To Visit Popular Tourist Attractions Within The City

Research conducted by the team at www.stmartin-in-the-fields.org uncovered where Britons are looking forward to visiting once lockdown restrictions are further lifted. More than 2,350 UK citizens took part in the survey, all of whom were over the age of 18 and confirmed beforehand that they were looking to book some form of getaway this year.

It was found that three quarters of UK residents are planning a staycation this year (75%), whilst the remainder are hopeful they’ll be able to travel abroad (25%). When asked why they were planning a staycation over a holiday abroad, almost all claimed it was due to the continued uncertainties of flying to different countries this year (93%).

London topped the list as people’s number one staycation choice and, surprisingly, a third of those were Londoners who later admitted that they haven’t visited any of the popular London tourist attractions despite living locally (34%).

Respondents were then given an exhaustive list of London tourist attractions and asked to select those they plan to visit once lockdown is eased; the below attractions were found to be top of the list:

· ZSL London Zoo – 75%

· Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew – 64%

· St Paul’s Cathedral – 46%

· Natural History Museum – 42%

· The Tower of London – 40%

· The London Eye – 38%

· Madame Tussauds – 36%

· The London Dungeons – 35%

· The Shard – 31%

· Victoria and Albert Museum – 27%

For those looking for something fun to do, St Martin-in-the-Fields is going to be hosting a number of events in the coming months as part of their reopening plans. The Spirit of St Martin’s appeal is raising vital funds that will help the Church remain open and continue to be a safe place for anyone who needs it. A few events include:

· ‘The Return of London’ – an exhibition of Adam Dant’s work celebrating London, as part of London Original Print Week. Dant’s solo exhibition, in the Crypt of St Martin’s, showcases a collection of limited edition prints and drawings, including maps that salute London’s Theatres, Lost Rivers and bustling London Squares. The exhibition will unveil a brand-new map of the Central London parish of St Martin-in-the Fields, created to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the building and highlighting the many attractions within its parish. Running every day from the May 1st – May 8th between 12pm and 5pm and then from May 8th every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday each week

· ‘Out of Home’ and ‘Pandemic London’ – exhibitions of photographs of ‘the world’s capital’, including images captured by homeless people living on London’s deserted streets throughout the past year. The exhibitions are free of charge to attend and are viewable to the public from April 22nd in the Courtyard at St Martin-in-the-Fields
