21% OF DATERS IN LONDON MAKE NO EFFORT FROM THE WAIST DOWN DURING A VIRTUAL DATE

The last 12 months have changed the dating landscape as Londoners replace romantic dinners at fancy restaurants with Zoom dates – and those looking for love have found the virtual dating game to be an extremely awkward affair as daters in London reveal some of the funniest AND most uncomfortable things experienced on dates.

New research by leading online bingo website Foxy Bingo of people who’ve gone on a ‘virtual date’, reveals that 21% made very little effort to dress up below the waist – while lack of conversation (53%), prolonged silence (39%) and the other person being interrupted by family members walking in (21%) are among the most awkward things to happen to hapless daters. Overall, 84% have had an awkward virtual date in the last year.

To help daters win at virtual dating this Valentine’s Day and ensure moments of awkwardness don’t ruin their next virtual date, Foxy Bingo has called on the help of its bingo players – known for their easy chatroom conversation – to pass on their chatting skills to others.

Along with the expertise of matchmaking expert Nia Williams, Foxy Bingo has created a free ‘Ice Breaker Bingo’ card that comes as a catchphrase bingo game – complete with conversation starters and tips to avoid any awkward moments – so Brits can enjoy a successful first virtual date.

The Foxy Bingo research also found that 45% admit they’ve made much less effort compared to a normal date – and 11% haven’t even bothered showering beforehand, while 15% stated they had a few tipples beforehand to help ease nerves before a virtual date.

Although some virtual daters in London haven’t got dressed from head to toe, 85% say that they have made special efforts because the date was held virtually. Over half (51%) cleaned their house beforehand and 10% bought a new outfit just for the date. Some daters were even keen to show off how intelligent or cultured they were to their potential love interest by rearranging the books on the shelf behind them (25%) and adding artwork to their background (18%).

Despite the inability to meet dates in person over the last few months, this hasn’t stopped some daters in the UK from ‘swiping right’ – as 9% have been on virtual dates with ten or more people in the last year. On average the typical male dater in the UK has dated three different people, with women dating just two.
