Cleaning and laundry expert launches podcast for domestic gods and goddesses!

Laundry legend Dr. Beckmann has launched a specialist cleaning podcast, after new research showed 70% of domestic jobs are carried out while listening to audio broadcasts*.

The brand, famous for its laundry and cleaning products like Carpet Stain Remover, Stain Devils, Glowhite and Service-It Deep Clean Washing Machine cleaner, has revealed that new research shows 7 out of 10 of its customers listen to the radio or a podcast while they are cleaning the home. Another interesting statistic that came out of the study – over 75% of washing machine owners prefer to repair their machines, rather than replacing them – even if the washing machine is 10+ years old. It seems like those specialising in doing a washer repair are in a good place!

The new Dr. Beckmann podcast series – in conjunction with Smooth Radio – launches this week with the first in the series focusing on how lockdown has caused seismic changes in how we clean our homes.

The Dr. Beckmann podcast – available on all the most popular podcast platforms – launches at a time when audio has won new ground in both the UK and across the world.

Big players in audio like Apple and Spotify have seen customer numbers rocket beyond all expectations as a result of the rising popularity of podcasts, which enable listeners to pick and choose audio content to suit their lifestyle.

Spotify credits the new podcast popularity for a 24% growth in its subscribers. The music streaming site recorded a doubling in podcast listening hours in the fourth quarter of 2020, as lockdown listeners tuned in in record numbers. A quarter of all Spotify users engaged with podcast content in the final three months of 2020.

There are more podcasts than ever before – over one million shows and 30 million episodes according to Apple Podcasts data. And the number of podcasts is growing exponentially; Apple says there were more than 63,000 new shows released in March 2020 compared with just over 25,000 additions in September 2019.

Dr. Beckmann spokesperson Susan Fermor said: “Lockdown has changed so much about our lives – not just what we do but where and how we do it. Almost half of UK households are spending more on home cleaning products such as disinfectants due to the current climate.

“Cleaning our homes has taken on new importance because of the this and so we’ve seen a huge surge in sales of antibacterial products, as people are keen to do everything they can to keep their homes as clean and bacteria free as possible.

“But it’s also changed how we clean and what we do while we are cleaning. Lots of our customers are now plugging in and listening to podcasts while they carry out domestic duties.

“Podcasts are behind a massive rise in the popularity of audio entertainment during the last 12 months and have even led to some of the bigger players like Spotify and Apple investing substantially in their audio offer, beyond simply making music available for streaming or download.

“So, we’ve responded to this new demand and produced a specialist Dr. Beckmann podcast, which talks about every aspect of being a domestic god or goddess – how to clean, what to clean, when to clean, lifestyle and trends tips and advice. Our podcast series is designed with our customers, and everyone else who is responsible for cleaning their home, in mind. It’s perfect for listening to while you’re doing the laundry.”

The podcast series launches with a special 30% off products on the Dr. B website for the whole of March 2021.
