Four key golf dates for the diary as we prepare for the courses to reopen

Apart from a few brief spells, we’ve all been without a lot of our most treasured things over the past 12 months. Whether that be a coffee with a friend, a hug from a loved one, or even something as minor as spending time on our favourite hobby, it’s been a long old stretch of time where we haven’t been able to properly enjoy everyday life.

But – things are changing for the better this time, and we couldn’t be happier. There are lots of huge changes in the pipeline that will provide a slow and steady pathway back to a sense of normality, but amongst some of the most exciting (for us) is the reopening of golf courses up and down the UK. Many are gearing themselves up ready for the reopening, as well as checking out some Golf equipment reviews online so they are well prepared for stepping onto that green. It’s been a long time coming…

So, once you’ve spent some much-needed time with loved ones, caught up with friends, and finally had that haircut – will you be joining us in your Golf Joggers on the links?

If so – here are four key dates you need to jot down in your diary!

29th March 2021

For any keen golfer, the 29th March will likely already be written down, underlined, and bookmarked in the diary. It’s not a date we’re likely to forget anytime soon, because it is on this day that golf courses can legally reopen!

Yes, you will need to book your time on the green in advance, and you may not be able to indulge in your favourite onsite food and drink as it’s takeaway refreshments only to begin with – but it’s definitely a reason to celebrate.

And, if you’d been receiving coaching before the lockdown begun, or you have been hoping to start up with a coach, this will also be allowed from the 29th, either on a 1 to 1 basis or in a group of up to 6.

12th April 2021

Just a short 2 weeks after golf courses reopen, so too do our much-beloved golf shops. That means you can finally get your hands on that longed after electric golf trolley you’ve been eyeing up over the last few months. Or, if you’re in dire need of some new golf clothes, you can finally go and get your hands on some without risking sizing by shopping online!

But that’s not all that happens on the 12th April. In keeping with the rule of six, food and drink will be allowed to be served outdoors, and there are some other potential relaxations happening such as the reopening of social outdoor spaces and locker room and changing facilities.

17th May 2021

From 6 to 30, the number of people allowed to gather outdoors increases on the 17th. This is of course huge news because let’s face it, it’s been a long time since we were allowed to see those sorts of numbers.

Indoors, social areas could be set to reopen on the 17th, in line with the rule of six and we may also see the return of indoor coaching (also within the rule of six).

21st June 2021

Here in the UK, the 21st June is the big date to look forward to. Not just in golf, but in every industry, this is the date things really return to normal. All being well, from this date there will be no limits on the number of people gathering, and all remaining facilities will reopen.

Within the golfing industry, there will also be a review on the use of course rakes, divot boxes and ball washers as well as the removal of flagsticks and the exchange of scorecards.

Are you ready?

There’s no denying that it’s exciting to see an end in sight, and the roadmap out of lockdown is something we’ve really embraced over the last couple of weeks. Of course, although these dates are set by the government, they could be subject to change if things don’t go the way we hope, but we’re optimists here, and after such a difficult year, who can blame us!

If like us, you’re embracing the plans and getting yourself kitted up for the big reopening, then it’s probably a good time to make sure you’ve got everything you need. Whether that be new clothes, clubs or balls – or something a little more premium like a new electric golf trolley to help prevent any injuries (after all it has been a while since any of us played!), it’s a great time to get those things purchased.

So from us to you, here’s to the next coming months and we will see you all on the green!
