Shoreditch LGBTQ+ equality charity welcomes £1,000 donation from Amazon

An LGBTQ+ equality charity has welcomed a donation of £1,000 from Amazon’s head office in Shoreditch.

The donation was made to Stonewall, a charity offering support to lesbian, gay, bi and trans people in London and across the UK. Stonewall partners with organisations to increase inclusivity and advocate for cultural change so that LGBTQ+ people are empowered and protected in society.

The donation will go to their crucial work which this year includes, supporting the LGBT+ community through the pandemic, campaigning to ban conversion therapy and their work on inclusive education.

Speaking on the donation, Katie Bucher, Amazon in the Community UK Lead, said:

“We are pleased to offer this donation to Stonewall, a charity that advocates for LGBTQ+ people in our area and beyond. The charity gives voice to issues that so many are nervous to talk about, and we are very proud to support it.”

Joe Waterton, Fundraising Director at Stonewall, added:

“We would like to thank the Amazon team in Shoreditch for this donation. It will be put towards our work with the LGBT+ community that will help us as we seek to make real the vision of acceptance without exception.”

Stonewall received the donation as part Amazon’s programme to support the communities around its operating locations across the UK.

Community donations are one of a number of ways in which Amazon is supporting communities across the UK during COVID-19.

Throughout the pandemic Amazon has provided disadvantaged students with online STEM courses and supported virtual classrooms with no-cost resources from AWS and Amazon Future Engineer. The company has also teamed up with charity partner Magic Breakfast to deliver more than two and a half million healthy breakfasts to disadvantaged families around the UK.
