Metro Bank’s Hector Buchan fundraises for Hope for Children

The UK’s community bank, Metro Bank, gives every colleague a Day to Amaze – essentially a paid day off to support a local charity or good cause. Hector Buchan, a customer service representative from Moorgate Metro Bank used every hour of his Day to Amaze to conquer three mountains!

Fundraising for Hope for Children….Hector has just completed this year’s Three Peaks Challenge. The National Three Peaks Challenge involves climbing the three highest peaks of Scotland, England and Wales, that’s Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Mount Snowdon within 24 hours. The total walking distance is 23 miles (37km) and the total ascent is 3064 metres (10,052ft). The total driving distance is 462 miles.

“I can’t believe I’ve actually been able to complete all three peaks – 3,408 meters of incline and a total of 4.5 miles of up and down – a grand total of 75,000 steps,” explained Metro Bank customer service representative Hector Buchan. “This trip consisted of tears, laughter, falls, blisters, wind, rain and freezing temperatures but I wouldn’t have changed it for anything (well maybe a wee bit more sunshine). I am so grateful that Metro Bank supports us with time off to fundraise and I am planning to take on more challenges later in the year.”

Hope for Children is an international charity that passionately believes every child has the right to a happy, healthy and positive childhood, Hector’s mammoth challenge has raised £800 which would supply school shoes to over 60 children for year – helping them to achieve their education goals.
