UK Wholesaler appeals to #freebritney supporters after t-shirt misprint leaves him with 10,000 units
Since the release of the ‘Framing Britney Spears’ documentary and the subsequential court case to end her conservatorship, fans of the popstar have grown increasingly concerned.
Since 2008, Britney’s dad Jamie Spears has been legally in charge of her estate and other aspects of her personal life.
However, after hearing of the 39-year-old’s lack of freedom – which restricts her from getting married again or having more children – fans began the #freeBritney movement.
But while the row has remained quiet for many years, the documentary brought the issue back to the public’s attention, and on the 23rd June, Britney finally appeared in court to appeal to the judge to end her conservatorship once and for all.
Yet, after her appearance, sparking a media storm, it was revealed that the judge had ruled not to remove her father after all. The fight is set to continue today, 14 July, when Spears has her next hearing and fans take to the streets to show their support.
Here, it’s thought the star will file a further petition to remove her father as a co-conservator or even to end the conservatorship altogether.
And like many fans and brands around the world right now, one man recently had 10,000 units of Britney merchandise printed, which he hoped to sell for £10.99 and donate a percentage of the proceeds to the star’s cause, but the products weren’t quite what he was expecting.
Karl Baxter, Managing Director at Wholesale Clearance UK, recently received the t-shirts, which have #freebrittany printed on them – the name of a popular French region.
The t-shirts were given to the wholesaler after a major mishap in the design phase in which the famous star’s name was spelt wrong by his suppliers.
Despite the incident, Mr Baxter hopes people won’t take offence to misprint and is keen to continue raising money for the star as an advocate for the movement.
The wholesaler hopes that fans may see past his mistake and invest in the t-shirts at a discounted price of £3.99 so that he can raise the money to support Britney’s petition when she eventually files it.
He also plans to invest in other Britney memorabilia in the near future.
