NEWHAM RESIDENTS URGED TO TAKE UP THEIR VACCINES AS PART OF WALK-IN WEEK

Vaccine clinics across Newham are gearing up for Walk-in Week starting this
Monday (19 July), when all remaining restrictions will be removed by the
Government.

With cases of the Delta variant of Covid 19 still rising, the Mayor of Newham
Rokhsana Fiaz and public health officials are urging Newham residents to take up
their vaccinations.

Nearly 200,000 people in Newham have been vaccinated which equates to almost
70 per cent of all people aged 18 and above. Of those, 118,000 had received their
second dose. However as the Delta variant still poses a major concern because of
its contagion risks, the focus is on making sure those who are currently unprotected
have easy, convenient access to vaccinations.

Due to the position Newham is in, the Mayor also wants residents to continue to
wear a mask to protect themselves and others until rates of Covid 19 have
decreased.

Rokhsana Fiaz, Mayor of Newham said:
“Covid 19 has hit our residents hardest – we have seen some of the highest rates of
infection, serious illness and death. We have lost family members, loved ones, jobs
and businesses so it is essential our community comes to together to do all we can
to combat the spread as infections rise.

“The easiest ways to keep your loved ones safe is by taking up the vaccine at a Walk
in Vaccination centre as soon as you can and continuing to wear your mask.”

Pop-up clinics will be open from Monday 19 July to Sunday 25 July to make it as
simple as possible for everyone aged 18 and older to access their free vaccine. This
will be primarily walk-in with some options available for those who would prefer to
book an appointment.

An NHS number or GP registration is not required although it is useful to have to
hand if available. Residents under 40 years old should attend a Pfizer clinic or
pharmacy offering Moderna.

Two doses are required to be fully vaccinated. First and second doses of Pfizer,
Moderna and AstraZenaca will be available. Residents who received their first dose
eight weeks ago can attend to get their second vaccine of the same type.
