Meghan Markle’s engagement ring is the most Googled in the UK

Meghan Markle’s engagement ring is the most searched-for in the UK, new research can reveal – and it’s more Googled than Kate Middleton’s.

The Duchess of Sussex’s trilogy ring, designed by Prince Harry himself, pulled in 43,200 searches in the past year – well above those of her sister-in-law Kate’s. Meghan’s yellow gold, cushion cut sparkler – which features a three-carat centre diamond sourced from Botswana and two smaller diamonds from Princess Diana’s own collection – rakes in almost three times the average yearly searches for all rings on the list. Perhaps they serve as great inspiration for those who want custom made engagement rings for their special someone, or they simply capture the people’s imaginations.

The research, by creative resource Design Bundles, analysed 100 of the most popular celebrity engagement rings, to discover the top ten most sought-after rings in the UK based on Google searches.

The UK’s second most searched-for engagement ring is Kate Middleton’s. The Duchess of Cambridge’s ring – a 12-carat, oval blue sapphire with a halo of diamonds (famously Princess Diana’s engagement ring before her) – pulled in more than 43,000 searches over the past 12 months: close to double the average searches for the top ten celebrity engagement rings.

Ariana Grande, who secretly wed fiancé Dalton Gomez in May, also owns one of the UK’s most Googled engagement rings. Ariana’s unique bling places second in the rankings alongside Kate Middleton’s, pulling in more than 43,000 searches a year. The ring features two stones: a 5 carat, oval cut diamond and a pearl on a slim, gold band. The pearl on Grande’s engagement ring sparked discussion among superfans, who suggested it was the same pearl as one from her late grandfather’s tie pin.

The UK’s third most Googled celebrity ring is Kim Kardashian’s, given to her by soon to be ex-husband Kanye West. The 20-carat sparkler, designed by celebrity jeweller Lorraine Schwartz and worth a staggering 2.9 million, rakes in over 19,000 searches a year.

Blake Lively’s engagement ring is also one of the UK’s most popular. The Gossip Girl star’s ring, which boasts a 12 carat, oval pink diamond on a rose-gold band, fetched more than 12,000 searches in the last year, and costs around 1.4 million.

Princess Margaret’s engagement ring is also one of the nation’s most Googled, pulling in 12,000 searches a year. The sumptuous ruby trilogy ring, surrounded by smaller diamonds, was designed by her future husband Anthony Armstrong-Jones to resemble a rosebud – after Margaret’s middle name: Rose.

The engagement ring belonging to Grace Kelly also makes the top ten, with over 10,500 searches in the past year. The movie-star turned princess’s ring, given to her by Prince Rainier of Monaco, was a 10-carat, emerald-cut diamond from Cartier, worth nearly 3 million.

Princess Beatrice’s ring ties with Grace Kelly’s as the UK’s sixth most Googled, raking in nearly double the yearly searches of her sister’s: Princess Eugenie’s (which didn’t make the top ten). The 3.5 carat diamond, flanked by two smaller diamonds, was given to Princess Beatrice by her husband: Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.

Beyonce’s 24-carat, emerald-cut engagement ring, worth around $5 million, is the UK’s next most Googled, pulling in over 8,000 searches, Gwen Stefani’s platinum and princess cut sparkler – featuring a 6-9 carat diamond, with smaller, trapezoid diamonds on the side – is tenth on the list, with over 7,000 searches in the past year.
