The Renewal Programme, a charity that tackles the causes and consequences of poverty, disadvantage, and isolation in Newham, has received a donation from Barratt London’s Community Fund programme. The housebuilder, responsible for the Upton Gardens development on Thunderer Street, has donated £1,000 to support the charity’s goal of uniting the community following the strain of lockdown.
The Renewal Programme, founded over 50 years ago, offers a wide range of services from housing, food, education, and immigration advice, with the ultimate aim of empowering people to thrive independently. Barratt London’s donation will be used to help the charity develop their ‘Community Hub’, a first point of entry for Newham residents to access positive community activities and wellbeing support.
Minnie Wiggins, the Digital Inclusion Project Co-ordinator for the Newham Renewal Programme, comments: “This funding will be hugely beneficial to the communities we support, enabling us to offer a rich selection of activities and workshops that closely reflect the needs of our community, while also creating a space for residents to forge meaningful relationships and build back stronger after COVID-19″.
Barratt London’s Community Fund allows the housebuilder to donate £1,000 each month to a local charity or organisation working to improve the quality of life for those living in their area. Through this scheme, the housebuilder seeks to support charities and organisations local to their developments in order to help preserve communities and give back to those most in need.
