Local Housebuilder helps Guildford Street Angels to Keep Streets Safe at Night

Local housebuilder Barratt Homes has recently extended financial support to the Guildford Street Angels initiative. The £1000 donation from Barratt Southern Counties, whose head office is also located in Guildford, will help cover the charity’s ongoing costs this winter.

Street Angels are volunteers who believe that people deserve care and love in their time of need. They provide support for people who use the leisure and entertainment venues in Guildford, helping them when they become vulnerable at night. This can happen to people for many reasons, including becoming separated from their friends, the effects of homelessness, intoxication, drug abuse, assault or any other issue which has caused personal distress or the potential for physical harm.

All the volunteers work in teams to enable people to get home safely, often in partnership with the club door staff, police and emergency services. The help that they provide can include getting a taxi for a person, or simply giving some water or food to those who need it.

Kimberley Benson, Sales and Marketing Director for Barratt Southern Counties, comments: “We found out about the Street Angels initiative during our office opening in late 2021, and discovered how the charity is very close to the hearts of the Guildford Borough Councillors. As a housebuilder operating in and around Guildford, we wanted to do our part and support such a vital initiative within our community.”

Ben Pitt, Coordinator for Guildford Street Angels, comments: “Practical acts of kindness make a real difference for someone in need, and sometimes, our input can be life changing. We are incredibly grateful to Barratt Southern Counties; this donation will help us continue the work that we are doing in the coming months.”
