The London boroughs WORST affected by soaring energy bills – where does yours rank?

Havering is the area worst affected by soaring energy costs in London, new research can reveal. Havering has London’s highest energy bills, with residents paying an average of £780 a year for their energy. In Havering, residents pay £164 more on energy than the London average (£616), and nearly £360 more than Tower Hamlets, the borough with the cheapest energy bills.

Bromley has the second-highest energy bills in London, with the average household paying £775 a year towards energy costs. Energy bills in Bromley are £159 more expensive than the average London energy bill and over £350 more than bills in Tower Hamlets.

The research, by heating experts Boiler Central, used ONS data to analyse average energy bills in London’s 32 boroughs for the financial year ending 2021, in order to discover which borough would be worst affected by the 54% increase in energy bills in April.

Bexley has some of the highest energy costs in London, with households spending an average of £748 on energy bills every year – £132 more than the London average. Kingston upon Thames, Harrow and Redbridge also have some of the most expensive energy bills in London, with residents forking out £733, £732 and £731 a year on energy bills.
