Medusa is named London’s most popular Halloween costume, as new data ranks the nation’s top picks
Medusa has been named as London’s most popular Halloween costume, as new data ranks the most popular choices across major UK cities.
October 31st is creeping up on us, which means that most of us who plan to celebrate have already started thinking about who – or what – we’re going to be dressing as this year. To rank the UK’s most beloved Halloween costumes and give online retailers the latest insights on what, eCommerce experts at Zendbox have analysed data from the past four years in October.
Researchers found the top 50 most-searched-for Halloween costumes (Source: Ahrefs) and cross-referenced the choices based on the top 25 largest UK cities (Source: Investment Monitor) to find the most popular ensemble for each area. Hull was excluded due to a lack of keyword availability.
The results found that each year there was a consistent favourite within each city, including London, and it was only Brighton residents who seemingly changed their favourite costume each Halloween.
According to the results, London will be littered with a plethora of Medusa’s this year, with the mythological figure coming out as the most popular outfit in the area.
The following list details each city that was investigated, alongside the most popular Halloween costume in the area within the past four years:
London: Medusa
Birmingham: Cruella de Vil
Glasgow: Bride
Liverpool: Tinkerbell
Bristol: Ghost
Manchester: Black Widow
Sheffield: Black Widow
Leeds: Daphne
Edinburgh: The Purge
Leicester: The Purge
Coventry: The Purge
Bradford: The Purge
Cardiff: The Purge
Belfast: The Purge
Nottingham: The Purge
Newcastle: The Purge
Stoke: The Purge
Southampton: The Purge
Derby: The Purge
Portsmouth: The Purge
Northampton: The Purge
Plymouth: The Purge
Reading: Cat
Brighton: Cat, Devil, The Purge, Pirate
It seems Scousers will be strapping on the fairy wings this year to dress as Tinkerbell, whereas Brummies will lean more towards the dark side of Cruella de Vil.
Glaswegians are set to turn heads as a spooky bride, whereas stylish Leeds locals are most likely to don Daphne from Scooby Doo’s iconic purple dress. Halloween fans from Reading will probably keep it simple with the classic black cat look.
The Purge costume was named the favourite of 58% of the cities investigated, including Edinburgh, Newcastle and Portsmouth, so it’s no surprise that it also took the top spot as the nation’s favourite Halloween costume.
Research discovered that the most popular Halloween costumes across the UK for the past four Halloweens were:
1. The Purge
2. A cat
3. An angel
4. A devil
