Sweating during the heatwave? It’s probably because you’re happy

Giving birth has been voted Brits happiest life event, according to new national research released today1.

More than one-in-five Brits said that giving birth was the happiest moment in their life (21%), with getting married (18%) following close behind. Meanwhile, 40% of the nation admit that they sweat more when they’re happy.

To coincide with wedding season, the UK’s number one aluminium-free deodorant brand, Bionsen, commissioned the survey to explore the nation’s sweetest and sweatiest moments, to help destigmatise the negativity behind perspiration.

The study revealed that Londoners are the most likely to sweat during major life events, with 56% admitting they’ve broken into a sweat while experiencing a joyful moment.

Meanwhile, people from Northern Ireland are the biggest romantics, with almost half (43%) revealing their wedding day was the happiest time of their life.

When it comes to getting sweaty, exercise was voted Brits’ sweatiest activity (41%), followed by having sex (19%) and dancing at a club (17%).

Southerners get the hottest under the sheets, as over a quarter of people from the South East (26%) said they sweat most when they’re making love.

And almost a quarter of Brits (24%) said they couldn’t live without deodorant, falling short of the top spot, with toothpaste (29%) voted the number one toiletry item.

Whether it’s a major life event, or just a normal weekday, deodorants and antiperspirants are a great way to stay fresh. The key difference is antiperspirants are designed to stop you from sweating, whereas deodorants tackle your body odour, but don’t block your pores.

With nearly half of the nation admitting to sweating during their happiest moments, the experts at Bionsen, reveal why we should embrace perspiration and embrace the attitude that ‘It’s good to sweat’.

Joanne Ward, Commercial Manager for Bionsen said: “Sweating is a natural process, so it comes as no surprise that so many of us sweat when we’re experiencing something happy.

“Major life events like getting married or giving birth are usually accompanied by intense emotions, such as anxiety, stress, and excitement. These emotions have direct effects on our bodies, increasing our heart rate, releasing adrenaline and in turn causing us to sweat.

“Instead of feeling ashamed of our sweat, we should view it as a celebration. Experiences like these are life-changing, so when we sweat it’s our body’s way of expressing how momentous this event is. We may be a bundle of nerves, excitement and sweat, but that’s just being human!

“Three quarters (75%) of Brits would rather sweat than smell, so deodorants like Bionsen’s Mineral Active Aerosol Deodorant are a great tool to help combat body odour while still allowing you to sweat freely, so you can live all your happiest moments to the fullest.”

Bionsen’s full range of deodorants are not only aluminium free, but also don’t contain any parabens, silicones or colourants. The products are cruelty free, dermatologically tested and are hypoallergenic, making them suitable for all skin types.
