BEAUTIFUL BLUE-CHIP CLASSICS ADD TO THE SPECTACLE AT RM SOTHEBY’S ANNUAL SALE IN ST. MORITZ DURING THE INTERNATIONAL AUTOMOBILE WEEK
RM Sotheby’s looks forward to its forthcoming St. Moritz auction being held at the Grand Hotel des Bains Kempinski on 15 September 2023, conducted in partnership with the International St. Moritz Automobile Week.
In addition to the already announced ‘no reserve’ Iseli Collection, one of the leading consignments in the sale is a beautiful 1965 Aston Martin DB5 Vantage. With only a mere 17 LHD examples produced, the DB5 Vantage is one of the most desirable cars of the David Brown-era and arguably one of Aston Martin’s most coveted models. The example to be offered at St. Moritz is offered in its factory-correct colours of Silver Birch over Dark Blue trim. It is offered in St. Moritz with over £400,000 worth of restoration work completed by Aston Martin Works. It is presented with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate and is estimated to sell for between CHF1,100,000 – CHF1,600,000.

The 997 GT3 RSR was always a huge success on the track, and this is a rare opportunity to acquire a 2008 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR that has never been raced. Offered by its first owner, it is accompanied by an Automobile Club de l’Ouest technical passport and a Porsche Motorsport Datenblatt. Powered by a 485-horsepower, 3.8-litre flat-six engine mated to a six-speed sequential gearbox, this example has just 20 kilometres on the clock (Estimate: CHF650,000 – CHF750,000).

Another fine Aston Martin on offer is a 1961 Aston Martin DB4 Series III, which is a rare Series III of the DB4. Fascinatingly, it was delivered new to a member of the British diplomatic mission to Mexico in 1961. It is finished in the rare factory colour scheme of Black Pearl over a Red leather interior and is offered without reserve (Estimate: CHF375,000 – CHF425,000). The sale will also feature a 2017 McLaren 675LT Spider, which was purchased in 2019 by none other than nine-time WRC champion Sébastien Loeb. Powered by a 675-horsepower, 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V-8, it was configured new with carbon-ceramic brakes and carbon fibre wing mirror shells. It is estimated to sell for between CHF260,000 – CHF320,000. Ferrari Dinos are always in demand, and the 1973 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS by Scaglietti offered in St. Moritz is no exception. Certified by Ferrari Classiche in 2007, it is presented in beautiful Rosso over Pelle Nera and is estimated at CHF450,000 – CHF500,000.

Another outstanding consignment is the 1961 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3.8-Litre Roadster. As a ‘flat floor’ model, with external bonnet latches and welded bonnet louvres, it is these very early examples that are the most revered by collectors. This exceptional example also boasts a full restoration, which was completed in 2015, in addition to extensive recent servicing which has amounted to €15,000. It also boasts concours history, which includes a rating of 99.97 points during its concours debut at the Delaware Valley Jaguar Club Annual Concours. This example would be perfectly suited to a discerning collector who is looking for the best of the best of E-Types (Estimate: CHF275,000 – CHF325,000).

Few 1960’s sports cars are better looking than the 1966 Maserati Mistral 3.7 Spyder. The car offered in the sale was the actual car displayed at the 1966 Valencia Motor Show and is beautifully restored in its original combination of Oro Longchamps over a Red leather interior. Shown at the 2017 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, it is one of just 46 3.7-litre Mistral Spyders built and retains its matching-numbers engine, according to the accompanying Certificate of Origin issued by Maserati in 2015 (Estimate:
CHF380,000 – CHF420,000). Another stunning Porsche to feature in the sale is a 1992 Porsche 911 Carrera RS N/GT, a rare “M003” example of the Carrera RS and one of approximately 290 built. Finished in Black over Black, it retains its matching-numbers chassis and engine, which has been upgraded to 3.8-litre specification (Estimate: CHF250,000 – CHF350,000).
