Sister of last remaining British hostage held in Gaza tunnels speaks out as country prepares to mark 100 days since the attacks
As tomorrow marks 100 days since Hamas terrorists took an estimated 240 Israelis hostage, the sister of the last remaining British national, Nadav Popplewell, has said that she is ‘hopeful but realistic’ of her brother’s survival.
Speaking to GB News Ayelet Svatitsky said:
“We really don’t have much current information. We did get some when my mother was released as she was with Nadav in the tunnels.
“My mum was released on the 49th day, so the first day of the deal. She did tell us of your condition but that’s not current. And as of now, we really don’t know. We live in constant fear for his well-being and it’s just horrendous.
“I’m a very realistic person; I can be hopeful but I’m also realistic. It 99 days to them can be 100 days, tomorrow. Obviously, we can all assume that their condition is deteriorating.
“My brother is 51 years old, he’s diabetic and he needs medications. He’s got asthma, he needs medications for that. He’s not getting any of those.
“They have very little food. I know that he’s lost a lot of weight and that was when my mum was released and she told us. But Nadav didn’t have a lot of extra weight to begin with.
“We worry for them every second of every day. They’re being held by people who have their lives in their hands and any second can change the whole picture.
“The Israeli authorities are in touch with us all the time. They will update us on information – if they have any or if it’s something that they can show us that will jeopardize Nadav or any of the other hostages.
“Most of the time there is there is no new information. We don’t have anything new, anything current. It’s just what we know from when from when the last hostages were released.
“They keep in touch with us but most of our information we gather from the media. If there’s negotiations going on, if there’s any rumours, we gather our information from the media. And
“Until anything is official, we won’t get it from the authorities. As of now there’s nothing official.
“There are 136 hostages held at the moment. My mum and Nadav were taken from a kibbutz and there were other people taken from there will families I know.
“Some were released. There’s one young man who is still being held hostage so of course I’m in close connection with family who I’ve known since childhood.
“There’s a headquarters for the families in Tel Aviv. I usually I live in Haifa so that’s almost two hours away so I don’t get there much but we keep we keep him online.
“We have a place a square in Tel Aviv where we have the rallies and the families stay there all the time.
“So we are in touch and we can provide moral support to each other but we’re all in the same boat and we all don’t get much information: we none of us know much.
“Nadav is single, he doesn’t have any children. He is British as I am and so was our brother, Roi, who was murdered on 7th October.
“We have family in Yorkshire. My dad’ brother and my aunt and my cousin but Nadav doesn’t have any immediate family back in Israel. Me and my mum are his immediate family.
