The Black Dog Pub has launched an online merch store this week after finding itself thrust into the limelight of pop culture after none other than global sensation Taylor Swift immortalised it in a song. Taylor Swift’s new album launched on 19 April, and since the album dropped, featuring the song “The Black Dog,” the pub has become the epicentre of buzz and excited Swiftie’s travelling in from far and wide.

The humble pub located in the heart of Vauxhall in London, which has been a watering hole for Swift’s British actor ex, Joe Alwyn, saw newfound fame after she released a song that explained how she tracked him to the “Black Dog Bar” after an argument and him forgetting to turn off his phone location. Since the song’s release, The Black Dog Pub has seen a surge in bookings, with guests requesting to purchase its branded pint glasses as memorabilia, which has sparked the pub to capitalise on the craze and create its merch line, which launched in mid-May.

Customers can purchase The Black Dog branded items in a range of colours and fits. With oversized and cropped Hoodies on offer, alongside T-shirts, jumpers, baseball caps, tote bags, pint glasses and travel mugs. Pricing starts at £20.00. Visit the merch store here

In addition to the influx of customers, The Black Dog Pub has also experienced a surge in social media engagement. After creating a TikTok account on the 21st of April, it reached over 2 million views and over 200,000 likes in under a week. The Black Dog’s staff have taken to the pub’s Instagram and TikTok accounts to share their comedic sentiment and provide a snapshot of the ‘Taylor Swift Effect’.

Owner of The Black Dog Pub, Jonathan Murray, expressed his delight at the unexpected attention, stating, “We’ve always known we have something special here at The Black Dog, but since Taylor’s album dropped the attention is beyond anything we could have imagined. Our booking system has been bombarded; we receive over 100 requests a day we cannot accommodate! We’ve had nearly 100 pint glasses stolen, which are now being sold on eBay! We’ve repainted the toilets twice from die-hard swifties scrawling ‘We love TS’ all over the walls. It’s been an absolute whirlwind, but we’re thrilled to welcome new faces to the pub.”

The Black Dog serves a menu inspired by Spanish influences of tapas designed to share and large plates with a classic twist such as Salted & pickled cantabrian anchovies, Miso & aji amarillo roasted half spatchcock chicken, marinated peppers, Garlic prawns & sobrasada “fuego de ajo”. While the drinks offering spans a collection of craft ales and larger from around the world including the Black Dogs own, Black Dog Lager and Black Dog Stout.
