Game, set…eat! Scotty Brand to serve winning combo at Wimbledon
Tennis fans will have an ace time on their way to Wimbledon with a tasty treat of Scottish strawberries and cream at local tennis club, Emma Wells.1
Scotty Brand, producers of quality, homegrown foods, are taking their iconic ice cream van full of delicious, Perthshire-grown strawberries to Wimbledon on Tuesday 9th July. Staff will treat locals and visitors to free strawberries and cream on their way to the legendary event.
As the traditional treat for the iconic tournament, strawberries enjoy a surge in demand around Wimbledon with more than 38.4 tons of strawberries picked and consumed during the tournament each year – nearly 2 million strawberries.2 With Scotty Brand strawberries stocked in more Asda stores than ever been before, across the UK, the Scottish business hopes to make the most of the opportunity.
Before hitting the road to Wimbledon, Scotty Brand stopped by a local tennis club to ensure their fresh crop met the approval of Scotland’s future tennis champions.
Andrew Young, Brand Development Manager at Scotty Brand said: “We loved treating these promising young tennis stars to our Scottish strawberries before our van heads to Wimbledon, and it’s clear they passed the taste test by a mile.
“This season we have more strawberries than ever in Asda so our customers can enjoy the freshest, sweetest berries all summer long. There’s a real surge in demand around Wimbledon – it’s the perfect opportunity to get Scottish strawberries in the spotlight.
“We’re now hitting the road to share our homegrown, freshly picked berries with tennis fans in Wimbledon, celebrating both strawberry season and the world’s premier tennis tournament.”
Scotty Brand’s strawberries are grown at Bruce Farms in Perthshire. The farm has been in the Bruce family for over 100 years and is currently run by father and son team, Bill and Geoff Bruce.
Scotland’s long daylight hours, consistent temperatures, ample rainfall and fertile soil makes it the perfect place to grow the tastiest strawberries, as the climate allows for the berries to ripen slowly and develop a distinctly sweet taste.
