London immersive theatre company wins two traveller’s choice awards

London immersive experience company Layered Reality has received two Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards for Gunpowder Plot: A Tower of London Immersive Experience and Jeff Wayne’s The War of the Worlds: The Immersive Experience.

This award only goes to the top 10% of things to do worldwide, based on reviews and ratings.

Gunpowder Plot: A Tower of London Immersive Experience and Jeff Wayne’s The War of the Worlds: The Immersive Experience currently have over 13,000 combined five-star reviews on Tripadvisor – where the latter is also ranked London’s no.1 immersive night out.

Layered Reality is no stranger to awards. The London company has previously won a THEA Award, which is often described as the Oscars of the industry, as well as a London Design Award and London For Groups Award, among others.

Andrew McGuinness, CEO of Layered Reality, said: “We always want people to remember their time in a Layered Reality experience as one of the highlights of their year, so we’re delighted that our valued guests have enjoyed our experiences enough to take the time to recommend us to travellers around the globe.

“This double award win marks the third consecutive year that Jeff Wayne’s The War of the Worlds: The Immersive Experience has struck gold with Tripadvisor, and a first for Gunpowder Plot: A Tower of London Immersive Experience.

“Whether you’re joining us for Jeff Wayne’s The War of the Worlds: The Immersive Experience or Gunpowder Plot: A Tower of London Immersive Experience, you can expect an unforgettable family day out infused with fun, laughter and education. This award is great proof of that.”

Gunpowder Plot: A Tower of London Immersive Experience

Live out the failed gunpowder plot, led by infamous conspirator Guy Fawkes, in this 1 hour 40 minute experience, which starts in a cell in the Tower of London where live actors perform the story and lead guests through 24 interactive scenes.

Travel through London in 1605 in a series of virtual reality experiences which are seamlessly interwoven with live action and detailed movie-scale set, including a boat journey (via virtual reality and motion simulator) to transport 36 barrels of gunpowder up the Thames with Guy Fawkes, who is portrayed by actor Tom Felton.

The experience includes an intermission at the fictional Duck and Drake pub (traditionally located on the Strand in 1605) where the conspirators planned the Gunpowder Plot. It is here where guests will decide whether to support the plotters or betray them to the Crown, and set in motion the next phase of the story, which closes with the inevitable end that we all know from history: the capture of Guy Fawkes underneath the Houses of Parliament, his torture and eventual execution.

Jeff Wayne’s The War of the Worlds: The Immersive Experience

Travel back to 1898 and experience escaping a Martian-occupied Victorian England in an action-packed journey through the classic tale of HG Wells The War of The Worlds, all set to Jeff Wayne’s iconic score.

The 1 hour 50 minute experience sees guests follow George Herbert and his fiancee Carrie (who replace Wells’ anonymous narrator and his wife in Wayne’s album) in their mission to survive and chronicle the 1898 Martian invasion.

Guests will hear from holographic figures, sneak into a deserted Victorian house, journey through the trenches to London, slide down the claw of a Martian Handling Machine, fly to Mars in a hot air balloon and visit The Red Weed Bar, which is exclusive to ticket holders.
