Abacus Belsize Primary celebrates another year’s superb performance in national tests

Staff and pupils at Abacus Belsize Primary, part of Anthem Schools Trust, are celebrating another year’s superb performance in national examinations. The current Year 6 children have shown off what they are capable of achieving with a range of fantastic results.

Pupils aged between 10 and 11 are tested on their knowledge and ability in maths and English, taking tests at school in May, with the results published this month. The national average score is 61%, but Year 6 pupils at Abacus achieved a remarkable combined score of 89% across reading, writing, and maths, placing them fifth overall in attainment in Camden.

Notably, all disadvantaged pupils at the school met or exceeded the expected standards, and 44% of all students demonstrated a “greater depth” of understanding, showcasing their ability to apply knowledge in more complex ways.

Melissa Chandler, Headteacher at Abacus Belsize Primary, which has been at a temporary site in Camley Street near Kings Cross Station since 2015 and is looking for a permanent home, said:

“We are incredibly proud of our Year 6 pupils for their outstanding performance in this year’s assessments. Achieving a combined score of 89% in reading, writing, and maths, and ranking fifth in Camden, is a testament to their hard work and dedication.

“These results reflect the commitment of our entire school community to providing an excellent education and supporting every child’s potential. That always remains our driving force and is why we are more determined than ever to secure a permanent home for our school. ”

Mohsen Ojja, CEO at Anthem Schools Trust, said:

“Congratulations to everyone at Abacus for achieving such outstanding results, set against a challenging background as we continue to search for a permanent home for the school near its Belsize Park catchment area.

“The children’s accomplishments are the result of tremendous hard work and dedication from both pupils and staff, and I am incredibly proud of them all. At Anthem, we are committed to providing the best possible environment for our pupils, and these results are a testament to that commitment.”
