Love Support Unite Raises Over £197k with Celebrity Support and Fundraisers for Life-Changing Projects in Malawi

A night filled with intergalactic entertainment, celebrity appearances, and heartwarming moments, the Space Monster Ball fundraiser, held at Paradise Skate World, brought together a community of supporters to raise crucial funds for the charity Love Support Unite (LSU).

With a vibrant atmosphere, Space Monster performances, and an array of surprises, the Space Monster Ball celebrated the mission of LSU to bring hope and sustainable change to the people of Malawi. The total amount raised from the event was an amazing £27,061 adding to the impressive total of over £197,000 raised through a variety of innovative fundraising activities, including interactive hospitality and immersive experiences, all in support of the charity.

Guests at the Space Monster Ball were transported into a cosmic world where House of Dinosaur’s Space Monster performers entertained the crowd, accompanied by live music, DJs, interactive games, and a delicious selection of canapés, champagne, a chocolaté bar, and a pizza station. The event was proudly sponsored by Absolut Vodka, who provided the evening’s drinks, while Gusto catered with an exquisite selection of food. Attendees also had the opportunity to participate in an interactive auction and raffle, with all proceeds going towards the charity’s life-changing projects in Malawi.

Founded by sisters Alice and Nina Pulford, LSU started as a small project to support an orphanage for girls, “Tiliinanu.” Today, the charity operates a wide range of programs in Malawi, focusing on education, healthcare, and sustainable farming. Love Specs, their innovative fundraising initiative, has become a key driver for their mission. These diffraction sunglasses, which turn points of light into rainbow hearts, have raised over £100,000 through UK festivals since their launch, with 100% of profits going directly to LSU.

Paul Burrell, former butler to Diana, Princess of Wales, who attended the event, said:
“This fundraiser reaches the heart of those who need help and are most vulnerable, particularly children. Having toured Africa with Diana, Princess of Wales, I know firsthand how vulnerable the children are. I wanted to help. I am now committed to this charity and will support Love Support Unite in any way I can. The CEO’s vision is inspiring, and her selfless dedication to this cause was deeply moving.”

The event was a star-studded success, with support from the likes of Darren Proctor from Hits Radio Manchester (previously Key103), who hosted the auction, and Callum Lil from Coronation Street, who led the raffle. The fundraiser also featured an appearance from Paul Burrell, Harriet Bibby and some of the Coronation Street cast.

The success of the Space Monster Ball has paved the way for future events, with plans already in motion to make next year’s fundraiser even bigger and better.

Sophie-Larissa Houghton, Co-Founder of Paradise Skate World and Trustee/Director of Love Specs said: “This event was so important to the charity because it’s changing the way we approach fundraising. It’s the first time we’ve created such a unique and transformative immersive experience, all with the goal of raising money for our projects in Malawi. With the rise of competitive socialising and immersive entertainment, we wanted to harness this new wave and create an experience that truly stands out for a nonprofit—something I personally haven’t seen done before. In today’s world, with the cost-of-living crisis, it’s crucial to offer people real value for their money, and this event set the bar for how fundraising can be done differently.

The atmosphere was absolutely electric. People went all out with their outfits, fully embracing the theme, and it was incredible to see everyone so engaged. A standout moment for me was having Paul Burrell and the cast of Coronation Street at the event. Paul even joined one of our drag queen performers on stage to announce a competition winner, which was a fantastic moment. And of course, the champagne meteoroid showers were a highlight—each time someone bought a bottle of champagne, we put on a parade with fireworks and confetti, encouraging donations with 100% of the profits going to the charity. The most rewarding part of the evening is knowing how the money raised will be spent in Malawi, supporting life-changing projects for people who truly need it.”

The team behind Paradise Skate World, Junkyard Golf Club and LSU are already gearing up for an even more spectacular event next year, promising to take the Space Monster Ball to new heights.
