Happy ending for fox cub rescued from tight squeeze

A fox cub was spotted in desperate need stuck between a fence and a garden wall in London – but had a happy ending when rescued by the RSPCA, before being reunited with his family.

The cub was found by a member of the public in a garden in Hafer Road, Clapham Junction. After monitoring the cub and becoming concerned for the cub’s welfare, they contacted the RSPCA for help.

Animal Rescue Officer Eve Mannings arrived and immediately set to work safely releasing the animal. The cub’s mum was nearby and was seen dropping food down the gap for the cub.

Eve said: “It was really important we got the cub out as soon as possible. The cub was crying and his mum was nearby.

“I was able to get the fox out using a grasper, thankfully he didn’t struggle too much. Once he was out I gave him a quick check over and he looked healthy despite his ordeal – he was a good weight which may have been why he was so tightly stuck in the first place!”

Thankfully, Eve was able to locate the cub’s den on the other side of the wall – as soon as the cub was released, he ran straight back in there!

“It’s always lovely to complete a rescue with a happy ending,” said Eve. “We’re so grateful to the person who found the cub as they could have been stuck there for a long time. It’s a great example of how people can help wildlife. Happily he’s now back where he belongs with his family and with no harm done.”

Generally, it is best that members of the public don’t handle or transport fox cubs as they can become aggressive when stressed or injured. If anyone finds a fox cub that is injured, sick or in immediate danger or has their eyes closed then call the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999.
