Someone is hosting an actual COUNTDOWN party to say GOOD RIDDANCE to disposable vapes
Brits do love a countdown party. Think New Years. Or the Millennium [basically a posh NYE].
So it’s no surprise someone has been bonkers enough to host a countdown party – to say good riddance to disposable vapes for the last time.
From the 1st June – disposable vapes will be made illegal across England, Scotland and Wales.
Around 30% of all UK vapers use disposable vapes. Just like the pub smoking ban in 2007, the ban is a significant national moment for vapers – and the environment.
To give disposables a “proper” send-off, Mamun Chowdhury, who owns Cloud City Vapes, in Whitechapel, London, is opening its doors for the UKs only countdown party in partnership with quit smoking campaigners, Riot Activist.
The event is called BÏ Disposables – and Mamun is touting it as London’s best Ibiza club night to celebrate the end of disposable vapes with an official countdown, and loads of noise.
There’s a cracking line-up of DJs too. Headlining for the midnight countdown is Kurupt FM DJ, Danny Rankin. Supporting acts include the popular Mas Que Nada Brothers, and rising star, Samuel Morgan.
Riot Activist spokesperson, David Donaghy, commented:
“A countdown party is a very British thing to do, and the disposable vapes ban is a national moment up there with the pub smoking ban.
While the devices have helped adult smokers quit – they’re wasteful and bad for the environment and we’ve always supported the ban.”
An estimated 1.3m disposable vapes end up in landfill each week in the UK, with elements like the lithium battery and plastic coating creating an environmental hazard, and a fire risk.
Donaghy added:
“We wanted to help the nation say good riddance to disposables for good. Vapers can join us at Cloud City Vapes for the countdown before midnight with help from star DJ, Danny Rankin, on the decks. It’s going to be an epic night.”
Mamun, who has owned the Cloud City Vapes chain for 7 years, added:
“Riot Activist got in touch to see if we’d host the countdown bash at the shop. While disposables have been hugely popular with customers over the years, we believe it’s time to wave goodbye.
The important thing is this isn’t a disaster for the thousands of adult smokers who rely on vaping to keep off cigarettes. Companies are pivoting to pod-based systems, like Connex, from sustainable vaping experts Riot Labs – a closed-pod system that enables the user to recycle the pod when the flavour runs out, and re-charge the battery.
Single-use products that are bad for the environment have gone, but there’s still support for smokers who want to quit.”
Danny Rankin from Kurupt FM, who is headlining the event, commented:
“Disposable vapes have been the must-have accessory ravers at festivals and club nights for several years, so it’s apt we’re waving goodbye to them with an Ibiza inspired club night.
I can’t wait to get behind the decks with a special surprise for the midnight countdown. See you there!”
