BAO to launch Call Suzy, a nostalgic interpretation of a Chinese takeout, this July.
Call Suzy, a new Chinese takeout and delivery edition created by the trio behind BAO will launch on Chinatown’s Rupert Street on July 9th, in the temporarily closed XU Teahouse & Restaurant.
Call Suzy will offer Londoners a playful, nostalgic twist on a traditional Chinese takeout, with a menu featuring contemporary versions of the dishes founders Shing Tat Chung, Wai Ting Chung and Erchen Chang grew up eating. For brother and sister Shing and Wai Ting, the opening is a particularly nostalgic one, after growing up above their parent’s own Chinese restaurant in Nottingham, The Golden Crown.
Appetisers will comprise a selection of new dishes, including Prawn BAO Toasts with Mentaiko Sour Cream (£6), which will sit alongside the sweet and punchy Sanbei Chicken Wings (£7.50) a playful take on fried chicken with a basil ranch sauce.
A section dedicated to Noodles and Dumplings will feature Taiwanese Stir Fry Noodles (£8), created using Erchen’s own grandmother’s recipe, plus Juicy Beef Xian Bing Dumpling (£6 for 2pc) amongst other innovative additions. Fans of BAO can enjoy the Sweet and Sour Taiwanese Fried Chicken with 4 piece Parker BAO (£16), (two piece milk BAOs and two piece sesame BAOs in one), as well as Panko Curried BAO (£4.50). For the main event, a Beef Cheek in Black Bean Bone Marrow Gravy (£12.50) will take centre stage alongside BBQ Lemon Whole Poussin (£14.50). For a sweet finish, Call Suzy are also delivering desserts, including a Banana Split Ice Cream (£5).
Available Monday-Sunday from 12-3pm and 5-10pm, Call Suzy is the third new brand to be born into the BAO and XU family during lockdown, sitting alongside BAO’s delivery and takeout service, Rice Error and Made-By-You, BAO’s debut home cooking kits which are now available on pre-order. The delivery service will be operated from the temporarily closed XU, which will reopen later in the year.
Call Suzy will be available to W1 residents from 9th July via Deliveroo and later, direct delivery which will be available via baolondon.com when live.
