Here is your opportunity to rent Mayfair’s first GP surgery of ‘Dr Feelgood’ beloved by wealthy socialites and celebrities

Once Mayfair’s first GP surgery beloved by wealthy socialites and celebrities, the site of a historic doctor’s surgery has been transformed into a spectacular ‘mini-mansion’ with luxury interior design, available to rent for £4,000 per week through Wetherell.

22 Woods Mews was once the site of Woods Mews Practice, a locally well-known doctor’s surgery that operated from 1923 when it was the first practice to open in Mayfair, until it eventually closed in 2008. The Woods Mews Practice catered to Mayfair’s wealthy socialites, and was nicknamed the ‘Dr Feelgood Centre’ in its heyday. Now, a ‘mini-mansion’ has been built as an exceptional family home that showcases luxury interior design by the Luxury Interiors London studio.

The Woods Mews Practice was the go-to surgery for Mayfair residents meeting their every medical need; from medical advice and prescriptions, to fillers, vitamin injections, colonic irrigation, anti-anxiety drugs and sleeping pills. The three storey property had a ground floor reception foyer, with consulting rooms on the ground and first floors, and a studio apartment on the top floor. The practice was well-placed for treating affluent overseas visitors staying at the nearby luxury hotels, as well as supporting local residents.

Before becoming a doctor’s surgery there was a stable block on the site, which was first built in 1729 for the Earl of Shaftsbury and his mansion on neighbouring Upper Brook Street. The stables were converted to a residential mews property in 1907 by builder John Garlick. London’s West End saw its first doctors with consulting rooms in the nineteenth century; originally there were just 20 doctors with consulting rooms in 1860, rising to 200 by 1914. Traditionally, the senior partner would own the house or mews, with the lower floors used for consultations and the doctor living in the apartment above.

The rise in stature of Harley Street in the 1990s led to the Woods Mews Practice closing in 2008, and the practice was granted planning permission to return to residential use. Following thoughtful redevelopment, the mini-mansion is now complete and available to rent for £4,000 per week, or £208,000 per year.

22 Woods Mews is a five bedroom home offering 3,098 sq. ft. of beautifully designed living space, available fully furnished ‘turnkey’ for a family to move into immediately. The glamorous interior design has been finished to the highest standard throughout, with details including hardwood floors and sliding pocket doors for entertaining. The house also offers unobstructed views over the hidden Green Street Gardens located opposite the quiet residential street.

On the ground floor is a large reception room with plush seating and bespoke cabinetry, as well as a bright reception room, with a private lift leading to all floors. The first floor provides three bedrooms, one of which has an adjoining walk-in dressing room, each dressed with a chic neutral palette.

The property’s Principal suite occupies the entire second floor, with the bedroom overlooking the Green Street Gardens. There is a walk-in dressing room with bespoke cabinetry and LED lighting, and a marble-clad bathroom with a sculptural free-standing bathtub and twin sinks.

The lower-ground floor provides an open-plan dining room to seat eight, leading to a sleek kitchen with integrated Miele appliances. There is a study with bespoke cabinetry, ideal for the post-Covid work environment with people working from home more regularly. There is a private home gym and accompanying bathroom, and a further bedroom. There is also access to a private terrace, and an integral garage offering secure parking.

Peter Wetherell, Chief Executive of Wetherell says: “22 Woods Mews has undergone an extensive transformation, from a famed doctor’s surgery into a magnificent family home. The doctor’s surgery was well-known in its heyday for being visited by wealthy socialites and celebrities, serving the local Mayfair community for 85 years. The new mini-mansion is finished to the highest quality throughout and is available fully turnkey so a resident could move in today and enjoy the luxurious lifestyle on offer. This home offers top-quality amenities including several beautiful reception rooms for relaxing, a bespoke home study, a home gym and a lift to all floors, all of which we believe will prove very popular with tenants.”

Woods Mews is located on a residential street to the east of Hyde Park, just a three minute walk away. It is well located for enjoying Mayfair’s restaurants and cafes, and within easy reach of boutique shops.
