A man who sexually assaulted two women in the street on New Year’s Day has been jailed for a year.

Mohammed Abedin, 32 (09.09.86) of Montana Road, SW17, was sentenced at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court for two sexual assaults on two female victims on Tuesday, 1 January committed minutes apart.

Both incidents happened in Upper Tooting Road, SW17.

In both cases, he approached the women, who were not known to him, tried to engage them in conversation, and committed the sexual assaults.

Abedin was identified at the scene and arrested. He was later charged. Appearing at court on Wednesday, 2 January, Abedin admitted to two counts of sexual assault and possession of cannabis, and was sentenced to a total of one year imprisonment.

He will also be placed on the sex offenders register for ten years. The court heard that Abedin had a history of similar offending.
