Bear Grylls visited the attraction today at The NEC, as he opens the doors to some inspirational thrill-seekers for an exclusive Our Heroes event, giving Bear’s own heroes a day of excitement after months of lockdown.

Though its outdoor High Ropes course has been open since 14th April, The Bear Grylls Adventure celebrates its full reopening on 20th May, with the indoor and outdoor experiences reopening to the public. At the one-of-a-kind attraction, visitors can tackle Europe’s tallest High Ropes, feel the rush of freefall in the iFLY Indoor Skydiving wind tunnel or try their hand at beating Bear Grylls’ record time on the Royal Marines-inspired Assault Course, to which each visitor has unlimited access during their visit. Other activities include Shark Dive, Escape Rooms, Archery and more.

Bear’s time at the attraction on today is not only to ensure everything is adventure-ready for the full public reopening, but also to spend some time with special guests from a number of charities close to the adventurer’s heart. After a year of hardships for many, Bear and the attraction opened The Bear Grylls Adventure’s doors a day early exclusively for special guests including families from RMA – The Royal Marines Charity, Make A Wish, and Young At Heart.

“We’ve been wanting to run a day like this for ages now and finally (following government guidelines) restrictions have been lifted so we can open The Bear Grylls Adventure park safely and welcome in inspirational kids, their families and carers for a fun-filled day of action packed activities. Our goal with Merlin is to run these “Our Heroes” Days throughout the calendar to welcome those from the charities we work closely with and to support these everyday heroes

With a mission to give a lifetime of support, RMA – The Royal Marines Charity provides care, advice and friendship to those currently serving, those who have previously served, and their families. Make A Wish believe that a child’s life shouldn’t be about illness, hospitals and diagnosis – it should be about wonder, joy and hope. Local to the attraction, which is based at Birmingham’s NEC, Young At Heart works closely with the Heart Unit at the Birmingham Children’s Hospital, supporting families of children with heart defects.

Just some of the incredible young adventurers joining this exclusive event are 11 year old Rebecca Hampson from Wolverhampton and 8 year old Alfie Donnelly from Erdington who have both been under the care of Birmingham Children’s Hospital since babies and between them have had 4 open heart surgeries, with more required in the near future. They play a special role as Young Ambassadors for Young at Heart charity.
