AMAZING FOOTAGE SHOWS ARCHER FISH STRIKING GOLD AHEAD OF THE OLYMPIC ARCHERY FINALS

The Archer Fish at SEA LIFE London Aquarium are proving themselves excellent marksmen ahead of the Archery finals at the Tokyo Olympics this weekend, by showcasing their fantastic skills.

In their home at the famous South Bank attraction, the Archer Fish have been showing off how they shoot their prey down from an archery target, similar to the one that will be used by Team GB stars including Naomi Folkard and Patrick Huston during the Olympic archery event this week. Footage shared by SEA LIFE London Aquarium’s team of expert aquarists shows the fish striking their prey at amazing speeds, before swimming away with their dinner safely caught in their mouths.

Sporting abilities aside, Archer Fish are known for their very unique way of feeding. These small fish, who average between 10 and 12 inches in length, prey on insects and other small animals by shooting them out of the sky with water droplets from their mouths. The Archer Fish’s particular face shape and narrow profile allows them to get a precise aim when taking down prey and adapts excellently to give them the archery skills that would rival Robin Hood.

Rowena Kennedy, Displays Supervisor at SEA LIFE London Aquarium said, “With the postponed 2020 Olympics now here, our team of expert Aquarists at SEA LIFE London Aquarium wanted to get involved in all the sporting excitement. The Archer Fish are unique creatures and the perfect fishy athletes to get the team in the mood for a Summer of sport.”
