And The Winner Is… – London’s Best Awards Ceremonies

London has always been one of the best places to hold your awards ceremonies, especially since it comes with a whole lot of prestige. From video games to travel, we haven’t been short of some great ceremonies this year, and we’ve got many more big occasions to look forward to in the future as well.

Video Games

December 10th sees the long-awaited return for the Academy Awards for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla or the BAFTA’s for Black Ops: Cold War, but this year it’s bigger and better than ever.

2020’s Game Awards has chosen to take on an online presence as a free live-stream across 45 different platforms with an international flavour, thanks to ceremonies live from London, Tokyo and Los Angeles. It’s also seeing the introduction of an all-new award, Innovation In Accessibility. The award has been created to celebrate those developers who’ve been “pushing the medium forward by adding features, technology, and content to help games be played and enjoyed by an even wider audience.”.

Microsoft’s Xbox Adaptive Controller for the Xbox One, and now the Series X and Series S, springs to mind; with its wide-reaching support for third-party accessories – from buttons to wheels and joysticks, that help to open up gaming to a whole new audience.

More info is set to be released in the coming months as the gaming extravaganza draws nearer. Although, its organisers have promised it’ll feature everything from demos to news, and much more besides.

The International Gaming Awards are also something that’s coming to the capital in the coming months. The event is scheduled for the 19th April 2021, with a star-studded lineupof suppliers and providers such as PlayNGo, Bet Construct, and Connective Games making the headlines.

Online slot games are certainly becoming incredibly popular as time passes, which is really where sites such as VegasSlotscome in. They allow players easy access to a myriad of games from providers such as the aforementioned PlayNGo, as well as the likes of multiplatformers Endemol and Fremantle, who continue to traverse expansive sectors of the entertainment industry, as well as the online casino universe.

Travel

It’s not just gaming in its various forms that has experienced, or will be experiencing, a big awards ceremony this year. The third annual GetYourGuide Awards saw everything from Harry Potter to Stamford Bridge winning awards for London attractions, marking out the capital as one of Britain’s best places to be. It proves that London isn’t just diverse when it comes to culture, but also diverse in terms of experiences, and that there really is something for everyone.

Television

Let’s not forget, however, that London also played host to the 2020 edition of the BAFTAs at the back-end of July this year, hosted by Richard Ayoade, otherwise known as Maurice Moss of the IT Crowd. It marked a record-breaking ceremony with Sky drama Chernobyl taking home nine awards from a total fourteen nominations.

Behind that, both The Crown and Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Fleabag saw seven nominations apiece. Luther and In TheLong Run star Idris Elba also picked up a Lifetime Achievement award, and Virgin TV’s Must-See Moment for the year ended up being when Nessa proposed to Smithy in Gavin & Stacey’s long-awaited Christmas special.

Whatever your interests or passions are, it’s abundantly clear that there has been or will be an awards ceremony to celebrate what you love. Be sure to check out the all-digital Game Awards when they come around, or go and relive some of TV’s best moments by rewatching BAFTA ceremonies from years passed!
