ANYONE WHO HAD A HEART would never have made their love illegal

To mark the end of LGBTQ+ History Month 2025 come and join Alfie as he takes an emotional trip back to 1960s Britain. Homosexuality: a criminal offence. The music of Cilla Black: a powerful reflection of the gay community’s pain and loneliness. But amidst the arrests, shame and heartbreak, a beautiful story filled with love, optimism and joy prevails.

The show had a successful Edinburgh Festival run in 2024 and is back at #PhoenixArtsClub following a sell-out show in September.

Audiences said: ‘This heartfelt, inspirational play is not to be missed’,
‘Wow this man can sing’, ‘Cilla would have loved how her songs helped tell this powerful and joyous story’

Alex Green, author and performer said ‘I wanted to tell the story of all those prevented from living their truth. Because of the hideous law preventing same sex love so many of these beautiful hidden lives were lost and so were their stories. I hope this story does these men justice and for those still with us from that generation they feel loved, seen and celebrated’.

Written, created, and performed by celebrated LGBTQ+ activist and award-winning queer cabaret icon Alex Green

Produced by internationally acclaimed Rich Watkins (#HappilyEverPoofter #ReclaimingHarry)
