Are you prepared for a Bass Music project to create the Metal album of the year?

Blackened Bass Music project just dropped a nuclear bomb. I saw their video “Hear My Call” on Metal Injection and downloaded their latest release called “Gorgo” out on Cleopatra Records. I immediately ordered their entire catalogue and Luna 13 was gracious enough to send me a signed copy of their previous release “Wicked Gods”. I love this band and I specifically love the reaction this project creates. Mention Luna 13 in a room of 10 people and it will split right down the middle of people that love this band and people that loathe this band.

That’s art!

So who is Luna 13 for those newbies? Hailed as “the bass music scene’s Slayer,” LUNA 13’s forceful Black/Bass/Metal style incorporates elements of electronica, black metal, and industrial rock with the incredible ability to cross over from electronica to metal without using any guitars.

Dr. Luna, the duo’s demented musical maestro creates the voluminous sound solely with synthesizers and distortion pedals by wrapping heavy distortion around sub-bass. Frontwoman Lilith Bathory brings the spectacle with brutal vocals and trance-inducing dance moves behind her devil horns.

With a gripping aesthetic paying homage to domination and the occult and a strong live show heavy on theatrics, LUNA 13 has become a favorite attraction in hallowed Los Angeles where they hail from as well as a memorable opening act for death metal, industrial and electronica projects including Possessed, Insane Clown Posse, Doyle, Skin Lab, Skold Mushroomhead and are slated to be direct support for Aggro-Industrial pioneers “Hocico” in October 2021.

Here is what the press has said about Luna 13.
“Luna 13 brings the heaviness without ever picking up a guitar”- Metal Injection

“Luna 13 is a compelling marriage of black metal aesthetic, bass-heavy electronica, and industrial antagonism”- Knotfest

“Luna 13 have found a unique sound, drawing from black metal, industrial and electronica for a sound that is uniquely theirs.” Decibel

Now let’s get into Gorgo! “Gorgo” opens with fire and the track “Til There’s Nothing Left” is brutal, the term getting “ear punched” applies here. Moving on to the track “Dig” I start to question my sanity. Luna 13 moves with lightning speed and drops you off in a doom, sludge trap as Lilith Bathory eats your head with violent, guttural vocals. “Dig” is my favorite song on “Gorgo”. Songs “Unborn” and “Gorgo” keep the pace with violent bass lines and electrifying transitions. “Her Infernal Majesty” sounds like a bursting Sun and “Upside Down” is gloriously evil. “Hear My Call” comes with a video that is a virtual art piece by Vicente Cordero and takes you into the twisted minds of this Black Bass Metal project. Luna 13’s “Gorgo” is a masterpiece that should be mentioned as metal album of the year. Does the world of music honor art at this level? Sometimes.
