Art on a Postcard Summer Auction is announced: Featuring Marina Abramović, Ishbel Myerscough, Iván Navarro, Ruairi Fallon & Ben Eine
Art on a Postcard is proud to present the fourth annual Summer Auction with an exceptional line up of emerging new graduates and world-renowned artists, including performance pioneer Marina Abramović, staple of London’s Street Art scene Ben Eine and National Portrait Gallery BP Portrait Award-winner Ishbel Myerscough. For the auction, over 200 hand selected artists will create mini postcard-sized masterpieces, with bidding starting at just £50, to raise proceeds to continue The Hepatitis C Trust’s vital work.
Joining the line-up is Chilean artist Iván Navarro whose works with electric light as his primary medium. Navarro is known for his politically charged sculptures and installations that address the violence inflicted by the Chilean state. The auction will also include works by New York-based artist Martin Wilner, whose background as a clinical psychiatrist and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry has informed his practice. His work has been exhibited at notable establishments including the Freud Museum London, The Whitney Museum of American Art New York, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
Highly collectible emerging talents on the cusp of greatness for Summer 2022 include Yorkshire-based Jade Montserrat, whose work reflects the interplay of art and activism. She has worked as a tutor on the MFA programme at Oxford University’s Ruskin School of Art, and exhibited at Humber Street Gallery, Lisson Gallery and Brighton CCA. Tosin Kalejaye, a self-taught Nigerian artist who uses his art to convey impressions about modern society and the everyday black experience; and Ruairi Fallon, who works across paintings, textiles, and woodcuts and has been exhibited at Saatchi Gallery, Mall Galleries and in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.
They will be shown alongside original artworks by Kathe Burkhart, Adam de Boer, and Miriam de Búrca as well as long-time Art on a Postcard supporters Alicia Rothman, David Wightman and Otto Schade.
Art on a Postcard was founded in 2014 by Gemma Peppé as a unique way to raise proceeds for the Hepatitis C Trust’s vital work. It stands out from other similar ventures due to its astute curatorial eye – each auction features new names worth knowing. The auctions always spotlight a diverse range of global artists with an impetus on highlighting those potentially excluded from the art world. It’s a simple formula – a postcard-sized piece of paper is sent to the artist to decorate how they wish – that has produced spectacular responses from the highbrow to the humorous.
Hepatitis C disproportionately effects many of the most marginalised and underserved individuals in society, including homeless people, and those with mental health and substance misuse issues. The Trust supports individuals in prisons, mental health treatment, living on the streets and the community to get tested and onto treatment pathways. Often, this is the first time these people have taken control of their wellbeing and can be a catalyst for changes in all aspects of their lives. Through the care The Hepatitis C Trust offers, people are met with compassion, understanding and the tools to become happier and healthier. Many individuals who the Trust works with become volunteers, joining their Peer Programme and using their experience to support others.
The original artworks will be exhibited at the summer edition of The Other Art Fair in London from 30 June – 3 July 2022. West Handyside, King’s Cross.
Tickets available via The Other Art Fair site.
