AWARD-WINNING JEWELLER SAYS LONDON STYLIST HELPED INSPIRE HER CAREER
The winner of the gold entrant for Goldsmiths’ Craft and Design Council has spoken of her work with a South London-based personal stylist.
Founder of I Am the Brand, Conde Nast trained Aga Moodley helped style Kassandra Lauren Gordon, both for the recent event and during her time as a student.
“Aga has been the pivotal person in my fashion and styling journey,” Kassandra (pictured left) said. “I met her eight years ago when I wanted to be more conscious about the way I presented myself to the world. I didn’t know where to start and the internet can be very confusing.”
“Before I met Aga I would just throw anything on and walk out of the house. I would feel uncomfortable in public and did not know why. I think I knew deep down inside I was not comfortable in the clothes I was wearing.”
Aga and Kassandra did a series of wardrobe assessments and personal styling sessions where the current award winner, then a student, learned much about her body shape, colour theory and the best clothes for her.
“I definitely wear more flattering clothes and get compliments,” Kassandra said. “I am more comfortable putting pictures of myself on social media too.
“What Aga taught me about personal styling is knowledge and skills for life. It has made pursuing fashion and jewellery styling in my professional life a natural journey. As a jeweller, I think about how I create my jewellery pieces and how it adds value to my clients’ outfits and daily life.”
Aga (pictured right) said: “My main goal is to help my clients identify the style, manage their wardrobe without overspending, feel fabulous and empowered – more “me”.
“A great way to do this is to always know what to wear because then our wardrobe is made up of just the right type – and quality – of clothes.”
Sustainability is also a matter close to Aga’s heart. She said: “It is not always about acquiring organic or recycled clothes. It is also knowing your style and buying accordingly so as not to fall into the mass buyer category. Knowing what suits you makes it possible for you to reuse your own clothes with special techniques or even second-hand ones as well. I advise on all that during my personal styling sessions.”
Aga’s service means she goes out to do the heavy lifting – spending hours carefully curating what the client would like to wear and allowing them to try on and select the desired clothes at the comfort of the I AM the Brand studio.
