Bar Douro, the acclaimed home of Portuguese food and wine in London, is excited to bring back the celebrated Portuguese street food; the Bifana sandwich, to their menu. From Thursday, 19th February, it is available at their beautiful London Bridge site, with a Super Bock beer, for £10 on Thursday to Sunday.
Just a stone’s throw from Borough Market, this celebrated sandwich has been created to be enjoyed on their counter seating with a cold Super Bock in hand. Thinly sliced pork shoulder is gently poached in white wine and fermented pepper, then layered into papo seco, a Portuguese bread roll baked fresh in-house each day. Crisp at the edges and soft at the centre, the roll is built to absorb every drop of sauce and is finished with Savora mustard.
A staple across Portugal, the Bifana is a go-to lunch, a café classic and a fixture at festivals and football matches. It is comforting, accessible and full of flavour. Bar Douro’s version has been developed by Executive Chef Neuza Leal and inspired by founder Max Graham’s upbringing in Porto and his memories of many late-night Bifanas after long evenings out.
The Bifana and Super Bock Lunch (£10) is available at Bar Douro London Bridge from Thursday to Sunday.
The London Bridge restaurant draws inspiration from the traditional cervejarias and tascas of Lisbon and Porto. Guests can dine overlooking the open kitchen at one end and Flat Iron Square through floor-to-ceiling windows at the other, surrounded by blue and white azulejo tiles and warm, bare-bulb lighting.
