One of London’s most beautiful Georgian squares is being transformed into an open-air art gallery this summer to display works by artists such as Constable, Canaletto, Stubbs and Zoffany.

Bringing together art, architecture, literature, history, film, theatre and education, the Bedford Square Festival features overforty, totally free events, all taking place over four days (3-6 July 2019).

For the 2019 Festival, Bedford Square is being transformed into an open-air gallery, creating an ingenious and unique opportunity for art lovers to explore views and scenes of London from across the past three centuries through fifteen paintings collected by Paul Mellon (1907–1999), one of the greatest American philanthropists of the twentieth century.

Throughout the duration of the Festival, visitors will be able to enjoy works by the likes of Canaletto, Constable, Stubbs and Zoffany secured to the railings surrounding the garden at centre of Bedford Square. However sadly these will not be the real works (which all reside in the Yale Center for British Art in New Haven, Connecticut) but highly detailed reproductions presented on A1 size Foamex boards. However, each will be accompanied by an information label – exactly as if it were hanging in the National Gallery!
