Berkeley Group launches major new residents’ wellness club in East London

Heron Wharf, Berkeley Group’s new riverside neighbourhood in East London,
has launched The Riverside Club, a premium residents’ amenity space featuring a 20m swimming
pool, gym, spa and the UK’s first residents-only salt room.
Set on the banks of the River Lea, moments from Canary Wharf and the City, Heron Wharf forms part of a 20-
acre regeneration zone delivering 2,900 new homes alongside 2.5 acres of green space. Designed for
Londoners seeking more from where they live – from wellbeing and connection to flexibility and inspiration –
the launch of The Riverside Club marks the latest milestone for the neighbourhood, giving residents
exclusive access to an extensive suite of lifestyle amenities.
Designed by EPR Architects, with interior concepts by Bergman Interiors, The Riverside Club features an
indoor swimming pool, vitality pool, sauna, steam room, experience shower and salt room, with specialist
pool and wellness design-and-build support from Buckingham Swimming Pools. Alongside a state-of-the-
art gym, Residents’ Lounge, cinema room and games room, the space creates a dedicated wellbeing and
lifestyle sanctuary for residents.
Luke Tredwell, Sales and Marketing Director at Berkeley Group commented: “The launch of The
Riverside Club is an important moment for Heron Wharf and reflects our vision for a neighbourhood that
supports every part of modern London life. From the state-of-the-art wellness facilities to the Residents’
Lounge, cinema room and games room, these new amenities have been designed to give residents more
than just a home. They create space to work, unwind, connect and feel part of a growing riverside
community.”
The Riverside Spa
Positioned on the first floor with views across the River Lea and surrounding parkland, The Riverside Club’s
spa and wellness suite brings a restorative, hotel-quality wellness experience to the heart of Heron Wharf.
Designed to feel open, calm and connected to its riverside setting, the space has been created as an
immersive wellness journey, transporting residents from the calm of the sauna and hydrotherapy
experiences of the vitality pool through to the main swimming pool environment.
At the heart of The Riverside Club is its salt room, designed to create a warm, calming and sensory
experience, the 11 sq. m salt room features relaxing lounge chairs, offering residents a dedicated space to
pause, reset and unwind. Inspired by the atmosphere of natural salt caves, salt rooms are often used in spa
and wellness settings for relaxation, respiratory wellbeing and recovery, supporting the wider focus on
everyday wellbeing at Heron Wharf.
The 200 sq. m vitality pool acts as another immersive wellness experience within The Riverside Club,
featuring both standing and seated hydrotherapy stations. From gentle massage-style jets to more
energising water features, the pool gives residents a restorative space to unwind, recover and reset.
Design approach
Drenched in natural light with floor to ceiling windows, the spa’s elevated position creates an open and
uplifting wellness environment adding to the sense of calm and retreat.
With interior concepts by Bergman Interiors, The Riverside Club was designed to reflect Heron Wharf’s
riverside setting, drawing inspiration from the natural landscape, the movement of water and the area’s
industrial heritage. Natural textures, timber finishes, soft upholstery, glazed tiling and earthy tones are used
throughout to create a sense of calm, while subtle industrial references nod to the area’s dockside past.
The interiors were designed to feel both contemporary and welcoming, the amenity spaces balance
moments of relaxation, wellbeing and social connection. The overall concept brings the outdoors in through
natural materials, planting and a grounded colour palette, creating a resident experience that feels
restorative, flexible and closely connected to the River Lea setting.
Joseph Dixon, Project Director at EPR Architects, said: “The Riverside Club was designed to create a calm,
immersive wellness environment that is fundamentally connected to its riverside setting. By positioning the
spa at an elevated level, we were able to open up views across the River Lea and surrounding parkland,
transforming what is typically an inward-looking amenity into a light-filled, outward-facing experience for
residents.”
Across the spaces, design details such as ribbed timber, glazed tiles, textured wall finishes and soft seating
help create a residential, hospitality-inspired feel, while planting and natural finishes reinforce the sense of
calm and connection to nature.
The Gym
For residents looking to prioritise fitness, the gym has been designed and supplied by Educated Body, the
specialist wellness real estate consultancy, with a mix of premium cardio, strength, functional training and
free weights equipment.
The specification features more than 30 cardio and strength machines including Technogym treadmills,
bikes, stair climbers and resistance machines, alongside air bikes, rowing equipment, ski machine, dual
adjustable pulleys, Smith machines and adjustable benches.
The Riverside Club will be operated day-to-day by Antidote, a London-based wellness organisation, with an
on-site team supporting the smooth and safe running of the facilities, including gym inductions and ongoing
support. Residents will also have access to a variety of bookable fitness classes, personal training sessions,
yoga sessions and private swimming lessons, coordinated by Antidote.
The Residents’ Lounge
Beyond wellness, The Riverside Club also supports the way residents live and work day to day. The
Residents’ Lounge incorporates flexible co-working spaces where residents can work conveniently close to
home, while the cinema room and games room create additional dedicated spaces for relaxing, socialising
and building connections with neighbours.
With Zone 2/3 connectivity and easy access to world-class universities, Canary Wharf, the City and East
London’s creative neighbourhoods, Heron Wharf offers residents a connected lifestyle in a fast-evolving
riverside destination. The neighbourhood will be further animated by Makers Square, launching this
summer, which is set to bring together outdoor screenings, pop-up markets, cafés, dining and creative
energy, creating a new social hub for residents and visitors alike.
