Bermondsey show home gives nod to SE1’s creative community

In collaboration with Dapa Atelier, Barratt London has launched a new one-bedroom show home designed with SE1’s creative residents in mind. Future homeowners can now take a step inside Barratt London’s Bermondsey Heights to get a taste of life at the Zone 2 development in south-east London.

The new one-bedroom apartment was designed by Dapa Atelier, a design company with a strong track record of creating smart and stylish show homes in central London. At Bermondsey Heights, the team were set the goal of creating an apartment that would resonate with millennial young professionals who were ready to take their first steps onto the property ladder.

Robert Burton, co-founder of Dapa Atelier, comments: “Throughout the process we were designing with a younger, style-conscious buyer in mind, perhaps someone who works in media, music or fashion and could one day call Bermondsey Heights home. From a magenta legged dining table to the orange lacquered sideboard, the space is filled with one-of-a-kind pieces. We wanted to keep the concept memorable, fun and colourful.”

The design team used the surrounding area and notable residents as a source of inspiration. From the Tracey Emin books placed in the bedroom to the abstract art piece from the nearby White Cube gallery, nods to Bermondsey’s creative past and present can be found in every room.

Yolanda Jacob, Sales and Marketing Director at Barratt East London, adds: “There is high demand from first time buyers for homes in Bermondsey. We saw this in action when we launched homes through the First Homes Scheme and saw five times our usual level of enquiries in the first week. It was this underserved market who are ready to take their first steps onto the property ladder at an affordable price point that we wanted to tap into.

“Working with and being inspired by the area’s community and creativity has been important since we began onsite. I encourage anyone interested to get in touch, and step inside this beautiful apartment, which will give you a taste of what life could be like owning a home in the heart of Bermondsey.”

The main tower at Bermondsey Heights, comprising 26 storeys of high-quality residential accommodation with commercial units beneath, will house 163 private one, two and three-bedroom and 32 discounted apartments available to local residents through First Homes. The development will feature a residents’ lounge, concierge, Pantree service, landscaped courtyard gardens, a roof terrace and children’s play area. Boasting panoramic views over the London cityscape, the first apartments are expected to be completed in Spring 2025. In preparation for the development’s completion this year, the exterior of the building has also been revealed for the first time with the removal of the scaffolding.

Bermondsey Heights is ideally located in the Borough of Southwark, within easy reach of some of the capital’s top destinations, including Tower Bridge, The Shard, Borough Market and Bermondsey Street. Popular haunts for the area’s culture seekers include the White Cube Gallery, Bermondsey Arts Club and Crol & Co, an abandoned betting shop that has been transformed into a cool and popular coffee shop.

The area is already well connected, with numerous bus services nearby, and South Bermondsey railway station only a 10-minute walk away. From there, it’s just one stop to the major travel hub of London Bridge station, which offers a variety of National Rail services plus Jubilee and Northern line connections, linking with King’s Cross, Brighton and the South Coast, East Anglia, the North of England and Scotland.

Prices at Bermondsey Heights start from £472,000 for a one-bedroom apartment.
