Best pizza in London? Breadstall Pizza according to Sadiq Khan and Jay Rayner
With an overwhelming number of pizza’s options in London, it can often be hard to decide where to go. Luckily the Mayor of London himself and award-winning restaurant critic Jay Rayner have both spoken and proclaimed Breadstall Pizza as the best pizza in London.
Made fresh from scratch and serving up 20” biga dough pizza by the quarter slice, half and whole, Breadstall’s pizza hatches can be found on Berwick Street, Soho and on the Northcote Road in Battersea.
Having recently visited the original Northcote Road branch, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan took to Instagram to announce that he ‘Might just have eaten the best slice of Margarita in London’ and is ‘Looking forward to trying the new restaurant in Soho’.
Meanwhile, following a visit to the Soho hatch, restaurant critic Jay Rayner said in The Financial Times, ‘Now brace yourself for a grand statement: it’s almost the best pizza I’ve ever tried, bettered only by that served to me at The Pizza Bar on 38th inside the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Tokyo, which, last year, was named one of the top five pizzerias in the world. It’s that good. You may have your favourite; this is now mine.”
With flavours on offer including Margarita, Pepperoni, New York Vodka Sauce, Burrata & Rocket and Pepperoni with Candied Burrata and Jalapeño, Sebastian Vince, the man behind Breadstall, has exclusively revealed that the best item to order is in fact a secret, off-menu item…
In conversation with Jimi Famurewa, official ambassador for the Soho Food Scene, Sebastian Vince revealed that the best thing to order is the off-menu, in-the-know item called a Clanger. Half dessert, half main course, The Clanger is a whole pizza, with half a savory topping and a reaming third covered in Nutella. That third is then folded over like an old fashioned Cornish Pasty (half sweet, half savory), which is then baked so you get a Nutella calzone attached to the main pizza all in one!
