Black Cabs offer £10 rides for NHS workers in London - London TV

Black Cabs offer £10 rides for NHS workers in London

Gett UK, the Black Taxi app, is connecting NHS staff with Black Cab drivers happy to offer NHS workers in London rides for just £10.

The offer is available to the great number of NHS staffers working round the clock to treat as many people as possible during the coronavirus pandemic.

Starting today, NHS staff will be able to hail a black cab through the newly launched “Gett NHS” option in the Gett app. Workers will simply need to present their NHS photo ID to drivers to be eligible for £10 rides anywhere in zones 1 to 3.

Steve McNamara, General Secretary at Licensed Taxi Drivers Association, said: “Black cabs have been the lifeblood of London for generations, and I know hard-working cabbies will be delighted to have the opportunity to help in a time of need. It is brilliant that firms like Gett are dedicating their resources so creatively to support NHS workers, and this is just another example of what our trade brings to this city.”

Duncan Burgess, Gett UK Managing Director, said: “London’s Black Cab drivers are the best in the world and it’s clear that many want to do what they can to support NHS staff members at this difficult time, while also getting a bit of cash in their pockets at a time when ride volumes have fallen. We’re very happy to provide the technology to make this happen. We will cover all the card processing fees, and the full £10 will go straight to the drivers.”

Mark Hillier, a Black Cab driver in London, said: “I think this is a great idea and one that many cab drivers will be delighted to support. We all want to help. I only wish I was in a position to do it for free”.

How it works

  • Step 1: NHS staff members can download the Gett app from the App Store and select the “Gett NHS” option to hail a black cab and enter a pick-up and drop off location anywhere in zones 1 to 3
  • Step 2: A nearby black cab driver can accept the ride at their discretion. NHS workers will simply need to present their NHS photo ID on arrival. We can’t guarantee that all rides will be accepted, but we know that Black Cab drivers are out there and happy to help
  • Step 3: Payment will be taken directly via the Gett app (the full £10 fare will go directly to drivers)
