Borough Market to celebrate St. George’s Day with special street theatre performances

To mark St. George’s Day this Sunday, 23 April, Borough Market will be hosting the Lions part theatre company, for special street theatre performances that tell the story of the patron saint of England.

Bursting with colourful characters and comical tales, an adapted version of the 500-year-old song of The Ballad of St. George and the Dragon will be performed four times throughout the day in the Market Hall. Shoppers, visitors and families can enjoy the interactive performances of this fun and fabulous musical romp, for free, at 11.15am, 12.15pm, 1.15pm and 2.15pm. Each show runs for 15 minutes.

Between performances, spectators can browse the stalls and sample not only English specialities from the Market’s traders but also international flavours from St George’s other patron countries; Georgia, Ethiopia, Greece, Turkey, and Catalonia.

Jane Swift, CEO of Borough Market said: “It’s always a special occasion when the Lions part perform at Borough Market. Our location provides a unique stage for them to showcase their talent and they always create a buzz when they’re here. St. George’s Day is a fun event at the Market and the perfect opportunity for shoppers to stock up on both our fantastic home grown produce and international delicacies.’’

Borough Market will be open on Sunday with new hours of 10am – 4pm. For more information about the Market’s St. George’s Day celebrations, and to plan your visit, head to: https://boroughmarket.org.uk/events/st-georges-day/
