BrewDog and Peter Crouch launch new lager-stout combination ‘Laout’ beer dreamed up on footballer’s podcast
For years, the football legend that is Peter Crouch has enthused about his home-made tipple of choice on the ‘That Peter Crouch’ Podcast, often discussing his passion for creating a very ‘particular’ new beer blend. He called it Laout.
LAOUT
\lout\
: a drink of two halves combining lager and stout, in one glass
A controversial collision of two classic beers, or a bold blend of the finest flavours?
Enter BrewDog – not one to sit on the bench, the expert brewers have tackled the challenge, transforming Crouchy’s fantasy flavour formation into a winning brew in a league of its own. Perfecting the ultimate one-two beer blend to introduce the UK’s first ready-made ‘La’ (lager) + ‘Out ‘ (stout) beer in a can.
Laout a 5.4% is an outlandish lager-stout hybrid that combines the effervescent drinkability of a lager with the smooth decadence of a stout. The end result is a medley of dark malts with notes of coffee and chocolate, the body is creamy but light, with a fizz that reminds you – there’s lager in here.
#Laout is already a hot topic of conversation amongst followers of one of the nation’s favourite sports podcasts, which is hosted by Acast. Having inspired an army of fans intrigued and determined to finesse the fine art of layering the two brews, listeners are as serious about the blend as Peter Crouch himself.
So much so, that they enthusiastically leant a hand to advertising efforts. A drawing by Crouch, caught the imagination of fans who rushed to add their own taglines on social media. A huge billboard will now be showcased at Waterloo, featuring the combined efforts of Crouch and his devoted Laout fans.
And one lucky podcast listener, Simon Painter has received the honour of creating the Laout can’s design. Simon’s entry was selected from an array of artwork submitted by fans via Twitter and now proudly adorns shiny, new cans of the highly anticipated beer.
Peter Crouch said “This started as a little joke on our podcast but it’s become something special. Our dreams have become a reality, thanks to BrewDog
It’s the marriage you didn’t know you needed half lager and half stout. The Laout is born. Be parched no more”
Lauren Carrol, Director of Brand & Marketing at BrewDog, said: “Crouchy spoke, we listened. Laout is not your typical combination, but BrewDog is not your typical Brewery. Our experts (aka the Beer Wizard and his colleagues) analysed what Crouchy loves about the Laout and we think they’ve come up with a beer which ticks all those boxes.”
LAOUT by BrewDog will be available from in 4x330ml can packs via the BrewDog via from 6th July.
