Bring the cinema to your living room with these tasty popcorn recipes

The festive season is well and truly over, but the colder temperatures are here to stay for a little longer. What better way to spend the cold winter evenings than curled up on the sofa watching your favourite film with a bowl of popcorn?

Research revealed that searches for ‘popcorn makers’ have increased by a huge 586% over the past 12 months, making them one of the most iconic products of 2021[1].

Whilst Brits await the distant January payday, VonHaus has revealed their top three most delicious (and affordable) popcorn recipes that you can make from the comfort of your home, with the help of a popcorn machine. Levelling up your movie night has never been so easy!

1. Nacho cheese popcorn (serves 4)

Ingredients

100g popcorn kernels
160g nacho crisps
100g melted butter
50g grated cheese
Dips to serve
1. Preheat your oven to 180 degrees

2. Use your popcorn machine to pop your kernels

3. Using a food processor, crush your nacho crisps into crumbs or mash them with a rolling pin

4. When your popcorn is hot, mix in the melted butter

5. Add some chilli or paprika if you like spice with your recipe

6. Stir in the nacho crumbs and stir until your popcorn is fully coated

7. Pour the popcorn onto a baking tray and sprinkle grated cheese over the top

8. Place into the oven until the cheese has melted

9. Serve with dips of choice

2. Nutella and peanut butter popcorn (serves 4)

Ingredients

100g popcorn kernels
190g light brown sugar
200g butter
280g Nutella
140g peanut butter
1tsp vanilla extract
Extra Nutella or chocolate sauce to drizzle
1. Use your popcorn machine to pop your kernels

2. In a pan, mix the Nutella, butter, peanut butter, and sugar.

3. Heat and stir continuously until the ingredients are well-combined

4. Take the mixture off the heat and add the vanilla extract

5. Combine the Nutella mixture with your popcorn until fully coated

6. Serve straight away with a Nutella and peanut butter drizzle, or place in the oven for 10 minutes for a drier coating.

3. Marshmallow popcorn (serves 4)

Ingredients

100g popcorn kernels
100g mini marshmallows
100g butter (for those who like sweet and savoury flavours, use salted butter)
Extra toppings, for example chocolate chips or sprinkles
1. Use your popcorn machine to pop your kernels

2. Place your marshmallows and butter into a microwave safe bowl and heat, stirring frequently

3. Mix the marshmallow mixture into your popcorn until it’s fully coated

4. Sprinkle your popcorn with your toppings of choice, or let the mixture cool on a tray to form delicious snack bars
