Broadmead Primary School welcomes Regional Director for school visit

Staff and pupils at Broadmead Primary School have welcomed Claire Burton, Regional Director for London from the Regional Schools Commission. Ms Burton came to tour the school and celebrate with the Broadmead community after their recent ‘Good’ Ofsted inspection rating.

As part of the visit, Ms Burton toured the specialist teaching provision and watched children taking part in Spanish, music, PE, and computing lessons. She was delighted to see 3D printing of children’s work, before discussing with pupils the use of Virtual Reality in the classroom.

After that the tour took in the school’s Nurture provision, which prompted a great discussion with pupils about the impact of a specialised Nurture provision on behaviour and attendance, both for specific pupils with challenges here as well as more broadly for children across the school.

Finally, they toured the school’s Early Years Foundation Stage and Nursery provision to witness the youngest children learning. Here, Broadmead staff proudly showed off their ‘space’ theme, culminating in an experience for all children in The Wonderdome, a mobile planetarium.

As part of her visit, Ms Burton met and spoke to staff and children across the school. Staff spoke of the positive journey the school has been on and highlighted the support they had been given by The Pioneer Academy Trust, and the sense of collaboration across their schools.

Similarly, the children spoke about their positive experiences in school and away from the classroom as part of The Pioneer Passport, where all pupils take part in a range of trips and experiences to enhance their learning.

Of her visit to the school Claire said that she was struck by the consistency and order of the school and the schools in the Trust. She commented that the commitment to giving all children a good offer is clear.

Claire Burton, Regional Director for London at the Department for Education, said:
“It was a pleasure to visit Broadmead and hear directly from pupils and staff how proud they are of their great school.”

Sarah Hunter, Head Teacher at Broadmead Primary School, said:
“We were all delighted to welcome Claire Burton to Broadmead to see our fantastic school in action and celebrate our recent Ofsted result. The staff and pupils were all so enthusiastic in showing off their school to her and I hope she enjoyed the visit as much as we did!”

“This was a great opportunity to highlight the work that has taken place here over the past few years to make sure every child gets a really good offer. I’m sure that Claire was pleased to hear of the positive journey that we have been on and I look forward to welcoming her back in the future as we continue our journey and mission to ensure that every child at Broadmead reaches their full potential”
