Bromley local’s enlightening experience walking the historic Camino Francés pilgrimage.

Walking With Butterflies is a snapshot in time of the thoughts, experiences and people Darren Fletcher
met as he completed the historic 800km Camino Francés pilgrimage.
Starting by train from his local station in London, to St Jean Pied de Port via Bayonne, and to the hard
days crossing the Pyrenees, get a flavour of the camaraderie of fellow pilgrims, hospitaleros and the
different types of accommodation Darren experienced on his journey.
Between the towns, villages, coffee stops, and churches, Darren learnt about what brought other
pilgrims to the Camino, as well as reflecting on walking as a celebration, both of his life so far and the
happiness of those he encountered.
Darren Fletcher has always had a passion for walking and discovering new places, and has been
privileged to live and work in several countries around the world. He is now retired and looking forward
to sharing his experiences with others. Walking With Butterflies is his first book. Darren resides in
London.
Darren explains: “Keeping a diary was an integral part of my first time walking the Camino de Santiago.
It was fellow pilgrims who suggested I publish it as a book as they watched me write each night. It has
taken a little while for me to be comfortable with that idea.
I hope that people find the simple connectivity of people, places and events in the book as engaging
enough to look at undertaking a camino themselves.”
