BUILDING FUTURES DONATION HELPS FUEL NORTH LONDON LEARNING

A charity that provides breakfast to more than 8,000 North London schoolchildren a day has been awarded £1,000 by a leading housebuilder.
Magic Breakfast is the fourth and final monthly winner chosen through the Persimmon Homes Building Futures scheme, which supports groups and charities working specifically with the under 18’s.
Bea Sayer, Corporate Partnerships Executive from Magic Breakfast, said: “1.7million children in the UK are at risk of starting the day too hungry to learn. In our 1,000 UK partner schools, 170,000 children receive a breakfast daily, fuelling their education and offering them a route out of poverty. More locally, we are helping 31,960 children in London, 8,000 of which have a North London postcode.
“Thank you to Persimmon Homes, we are so grateful for this funding which will make a huge difference, ensuring we can reach more hungry children in the morning.
“A hungry child cannot concentrate, making them at risk of missing out on up to four hours of vital learning each morning. This donation of £1,000 could provide 2,941 nutritious breakfasts to hungry children, unlocking more than 11,764 hours of education.”
Rachel Faulkner, sales director of Persimmon Homes North London said: “Magic Breakfast makes a real difference to the children’s learning – and that’s what our Building Futures Scheme was set up to support.
“As a company we are proud to fund grassroots organisations and charities that come together to support the local community, even when times get tough.”
Building Futures will see £1million given away to regional charities, groups, sports clubs and schools to improve local facilities and the delivery of vital community projects across three categories – education & arts, health and sport. In addition to hundreds of local donations of £1,000, 96 initiatives will go on to compete for top prizes of £100,000 through a national online public vote with the overall winners announced in October.
Applications for Building Futures have now closed.
