In celebration of Mid-Autumn Festival this year, Bun House is giving the traditional mooncake a playful twist with the launch of their four-piece Mooncake Box Set, bringing together two classic Cantonese flavours alongside two new creations inspired by nostalgic Asian desserts.
Falling on the 15th day of the eighth month of the Chinese lunisolar calendar, Mid-Autumn Festival is celebrated when the full moon is traditionally at its brightest. A time for gathering, sharing food and, of course, mooncakes, the festival is celebrated across Chinese communities and in countries including Singapore and Malaysia. This year, Mid-Autumn Festival falls on 25 September, with Bun House’s Mooncake Box offering available from 24 August.
At Bun House Chinatown, guests can enjoy the Mooncake Set with complimentary tea for £29, while Bun House Disco will offer the Mooncake Set alongside a Shaoxing Flight pairing for £29, with the Shaoxing Flight available for an additional £12.
The four-piece features one mooncake of each flavour: Lava Custard, Red Bean, Mango Sago and Mango Matcha. The Lava Custard mooncake is silky and indulgent, with a rich, creamy centre that melts into a molten custard heart whilst the sweet Red Bean mooncake offers a refined take on tradition, combining a chewy red bean texture with a smooth, creamy paste. The Mango Sago mooncake draws inspiration from the nostalgic Cantonese dessert, whilst the Mango Matcha mooncake combines fruity mango with nutty, earthy matcha for a bittersweet flavour profile.
